This week of Las Vegas-area high school football games has two of the most intriguing matchups of the season.

Faith Lutheran hosts Arbor View in a Northwest League showdown, where the winner will have an inside track to the division championship. It’s a rematch of last season, where four-time defending Northwest champion Arbor View had to rally in the second half for victory.

In the Southeast League, undefeated Foothill travels to rival Basic in the Battle for Boulder Highway. When Foothill opened in 1999, it took most of its students from Basic to create a natural rivalry. Also, most of the players grew up competing on the same youth team, bringing a neighborhood feel to the rivalry that is not always found in Southern Nevada prep sports.

Other games of note tonight include: Centennial against Shadow Ridge in a game where the loser likely won’t make the playoffs out of the Northwest; Coronado against Green Valley in a Henderson-area rivalry game, and Moapa Valley at Boulder City in the class 3A. Moapa Valley is a perennial 3A power and expected to make a deep playoff run; Boulder City has been strong at home.
