Victims identified in triple-slaying outside North Las Vegas business

Two women and a man fatally shot in public Sunday night at a North Las Vegas shopping center have been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

When the gunfire stopped, Susan Nash, 52, Deonte’ Nash, 31, and Dejona'e Nash, 20, lay fatally wounded on a parking lot of a business on Lake Mead Boulevard and Simmons Street, according to North Las Vegas Police.

The victims were reportedly a mother and her two children. A fourth shooting victim, a man, was taken to University Medical Center and is expected to recover, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday evening and detectives were working several leads, though they weren’t ready to release a possible suspect description, said police spokesman Officer Aaron Patty, describing the case as “very fluid and active.”

A special education aide with the Clark County School District, Susan Nash was a mainstay at Desert Pines High School, especially in the football and basketball programs.

“Our DP Family is Saddened by the loss of Mrs. Nash,” wrote Tico Rodriguez, head football coach at Desert Pines, on Twitter. “She definitely was beloved by our student athletes and believed in the very best of our students. She was a mainstay at all football and basketball games encouraging our athletes to do their very best. RIP Mrs Nash we love you.”

Nash had been with the district since April 2005, CCSD confirmed Tuesday.

Gunshots rang out about 8:35 p.m. at the southeast corner of the parking lot, police said.

The shooting followed an argument and did not appear to be random, police said in a news release Monday, noting detectives were “looking into the relationship between everyone.”

Detectives deem every homicide equally serious, but dealing with three fatal victims and a fourth person shot only intensifies that concern, Patty said, noting he understands this one rattled the community.

Police strive for “resolve and justice” for the family and the community, he said.

Dozens of mourners on Monday evening attended a candlelight vigil at the scene of the shopping center.

The shooting occurred at a populated shopping center, therefore police are asking anyone who witnessed anything to call them, Officer Aaron Patty said Sunday.
