Letter to the editor:

Democrats are in denial

Charles Blow, in his Sept. 22 column “Opposition to Trump is determined, not deranged,” thinks he’s got the reason Donald Trump won the presidency all figured out. He says it was “white racial anxiety, unease about the possibility of a female president, voter suppression and voter apathy, and an attack on our elections by the Russians.”

Neither myself nor anyone in my circle of friends and acquaintances who voted for Trump have ever considered these to be the reasons for his victory.

He won because Democrats put up a flawed candidate in Hillary Clinton. He won because people saw only a continuation of Barack Obama’s policies in the election of a Democrat.

I don’t have white racial anxiety. I would welcome a qualified female president. I wasn’t concerned about voter suppression and apathy or Russian meddling. I was fed up with Washington-as-usual politics. I wanted things shaken up and overturned in both parties.
