Police: Parking lot fight leads to fatal shooting

An overnight fight in an east valley parking lot ended with one man shot to death and another with serious injuries to his face, according to Metro Police.

Investigators are treating the shooting as a potential case of self-defense, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The fight occurred in the parking lot of a business in the 5700 block of Boulder Highway, near Tropicana Avenue, Spencer said.

Officers responded just after midnight and found a man with a broken nose and other injuries to his face, Spencer said. The other man ran off after suffering a fatal gunshot wound and collapsed in the road, police said.

The injured man, who was armed with a gun, was meeting a woman he’d known for a couple of months, Spencer said. But when he pulled up, she was arguing with another man, Spencer said.

The armed man tried to intervene and load some of the woman’s belongings into his vehicle, but the other man attacked him from behind, Spencer said. A lengthy fight ensued before the armed man pulled a gun and fired a single shot, Spencer said.

Detectives have not identified the woman, who fled, but believe she knew the deceased man, Spencer said.

The injured man was interviewed by detectives and has since been released from Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Spencer said.

The case was being forwarded to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for review, police said.
