Updated Monday, May 13, 2019 | 2:45 p.m.

A two-alarm fire this morning at an apartment building near Clark High School was contained to a single unit, and nobody suffered significant injuries, the Clark County Fire Department said.

The fire was reported about 11:05 a.m. in the 4400 block of Pennwood Avenue, near Arville Street, officials said.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from an upstairs apartment, but the blaze was extinguished before it could spread to other units, officials said. An adjacent apartment sustained smoke damage, and the unit below had water damage, officials said.

Eight adults and 18 children were displaced, officials said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, officials said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
