Nevada health centers getting $6.25 million to fight coronavirus

Nevada community health centers will receive $6.25 million in grant funding from the federal coronavirus stimulus package, the state’s U.S. senators announced today.

The centers can use the funding to help in detecting coronavirus; preventing, diagnosing and treating COVID-19; and maintain or increase staffing and capacity levels to address the pandemic.

“As more Nevadans turn to health centers for testing and treatment, these funds will help providers across the state replenish their resources, protect their brave heath care workers, and continue to deliver compassionate, quality and life-saving care,” Democratic U.S. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen of Nevada said in a joint statement.

“We will continue to fight for more urgently-needed funding for these critical providers,” the senators’ statement said.

In the Las Vegas area, the Southern Nevada Health District will receive $503,000, Silver State Health Services will receive $523,655, Hope Christian Health Center Corp. will receive $555,955, FirstMed Health and Wellness Center will receive $627,110 and First Person Care Clinic will receive $640,460.

In Reno, Community Health Alliance will receive $1,147,370 and Northern Nevada HIV Outpatient Program, Education and Services will receive $762,275. Nevada Health Centers in Carson City will receive $1,493,390.

As of today, there have been 2,584 coronavirus cases and 86 virus-related deaths in Nevada, according to state health officials.
