    Throughout BYU's 31-21 loss to Arizona in Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl, one thing became clear: Regardless of whether the Cougars cared about the game -- a subject of discussion in the media all week -- that talk was irrelevant.     The time for talk is over. At 5:06 p.m. today, the No. 16 BYU Cougars will face Arizona in the 17th Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl at Sam Boyd Stadium. Both teams have battled harsh winter conditions and even harsher media scrutiny, and now it's game time.

    Four-year-old Ethan Freer was walking down the hall of the Sunrise Children's Hospital with his dad and sister Thursday morning when he saw some big guys walking around he had never seen before. Ethan, who has been a patient at Sunrise since August, was one of the many children who got a visit by Las Vegas Bowl players from BYU and Arizona.

    Without the arctic chill of a snowstorm gracing practice Thursday, Arizona football coach Mike Stoops created his own distractions to test his players' mental focus by lining UNLV's Rebel Park with large speakers. A mix of rap, pop and country music mixed with the constant din of airplanes leaving McCarran International Airport helped create a loud enough atmosphere for the Wildcats to work on their communication skills in noisy settings like Saturday's Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl.

    When asked about what it feels like to play behind one of the best offensive lines in college football, BYU quarterback Max Hall sounds like a kid describing his Christmas toy.     One program knows this drill already. The other is a group of true first-timers. BYU, making its third consecutive Las Vegas Bowl appearance, and Arizona, in a bowl game for the first time since 1998, were officially introduced Tuesday afternoon as this year's participants in the Dec. 20 game at Sam Boyd Stadium. Following a parade of welcomes from the bowl officials, Pac-10 and Mountain West commissioners and sponsors, plenty of storylines floated around the crowd in the back of the ESPN Zone at New York New York.
