Rashad Vaughn scored 18 points, Dwayne Morgan had seven points and eight rebounds and the Rebels survived 59-57 against Sam Houston State despite shooting 12-of-27 at the free-throw line.

Dave Rice could barely wait to start his first postgame press conference of the 2014-15 season. The Rebels’ needed a defensive stop in the final seconds to hold off an impressive Morehead State team, and Rice felt fortunate to be on the right side of a game that could have gone either way.

The Rebels came up with a stop when they needed it and they hold on for a thrilling 60-59 victory against Morehead State. UNLV is 1-0 and returns to action at the Mack on Sunday at 5 p.m. against Sam Houston State.

More than on recent rosters at UNLV, there are some limitations on the disparity among different lineups the Rebels can run out there this season. The biggest difference is size and UNLV’s relative lack of it, but within that there are still plenty of options for the Rebels’ coaching staff.

There are enough new names and faces to learn that many of the UNLV contingent who fill up the Thomas & Mack Center at 7 tonight for the Rebels’ lone exhibition game probably won’t give much thought to the opponent.
