Mona Shield Payne’s Top 2013 Photos

As a photojournalist, and especially as a freelance photographer for the Greenspun Media Group, I enjoy reflecting on the images I’ve been fortunate to capture each year. My favorite are those that evoke emotion and tell the story of that moment. In 2013, some of my favorite photographs still bring tears to my eyes or make me smile; a father returning early from war and surprising his child, a wife hugging her husband in celebration of him surviving cancer, a mom laughing as her babies shriek with terror while visiting Santa Claus or the daunting moment where a hot blaze threatened the beautiful wilderness of Mt. Charleston and cherished lives of our valley’s firefighters. I am grateful for the opportunity to capture these moments and share them with you, my fellow Nevadans. I would like to thank every person in my photographs for allowing me to be a part of their lives for even one moment in time behind the lens.
