Piñatatopia by Justin Favela
Mon, Sep 15, 2014 (2:47 p.m.)
Justin Favela’s “Piñatatopia” on display at P3 Studios at The Cosmopolitan Sept. 10 - Oct. 5 2014 in Las Vegas, Nev. “By using piñatas as a personal artistic medium, Favela seeks to create a utopian world where our collective views of Mexico are represented. The Valley of Mexico by Jose Maria Velasco has been pixelated to offer a distorted romantic idea about 19th century Mexico. These types of landscapes, which many times were internationally exhibited, were intended to offers signifiers of the newly independent nation. As a backdrop to Piñatotopia, The Valley of Mexico seeks to inspire viewers in helping the artist in the creation of new symbols of the nation. What represents Mexico to you? How would you see that vision embodied in a Piñata?” - Emmanuel Ortega
