From the school

Newsletters are sent to parents on a monthly basis to provide information about school news, student achievements and school activities. In addition, Whitney has a school Web site that is updated monthly. Meetings are held with parents on an ongoing basis to provide information about school curriculum, classroom instruction and student achievement. Some examples include: back-to-school fair, family literacy night, science fair, monthly cookies and chat with the principal. Parents volunteer throughout the school year in a variety of capacities including holiday shop, annual fundraisers, fall festival, field trip chaperones, classroom helpers and kindergarten and fifth grade celebrations. Efforts to improve parent involvement include the following activities: monthly cookies and chat, monthly parenting classes, general education diploma classes, monthly breakfast with books family literacy program, kids to kids family literacy program, student agenda books, Tuesday news envelopes, report card attachments, and parent/student/teacher academic planning time.
