It's the game everyone expected for the state championship — Bishop Gorman vs. Liberty. Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer play oddsmaker and try to set the appropriate line on the game. They settle on Gorman -25, with opinions split on which team covers at Sam Boyd Stadium Saturday.

  1. Good way of putting it, either Liberty has been playing possum and saving it for the final stretch or they've played down to the level of their opponent at parts of the season because the Patriots looked phenomenal Saturday, even if you take away a few bounces their way they still win by a landslide.

Liberty doesn't "Fear the G" whatsoever and likewise Gorman the haka.

Thanks for all the good HSFB coverage this season Keefer and Brewer, it's been fun.

  2. Being in the Bay Area, it's not always easy to follow Vegas football. Thanks for ALL the coverage. I love reading all the articles the next morning and often read them at midnight the evening of the games.

Thanks for all the great commentary as well. People like Tuasdad, LakeTahoeGuy, and many others keep the board interesting. People like SG1 and the newly arrived CoachDD keep the board jumping. HAHA. Love that people love football.

All that said, I plan on being at the Gorman/Liberty game and can't wait for what I expect to be Gorman's toughest "in-state" challenge to date. I expect Liberty to bring it. Had the pleasure of watching many of those Liberty boys play with my kid brother in middle school and love the success they've enjoyed. Kudos to all the Island Warriors Alum.

That being said, I'll be pulling for my little brother's team to bring home their fourth title. I know he's had a great time at Gorman and has no regrets.

Also, it's a special opportunity for #1, #4, #12, #55 and I think #77 to have an opportunity to play for a 4th Straight State Championship Ring having been moved up to Varsity as Freshmen. Go Gaels!

  3. I think Bishop Gorman will be too tough for Liberty to handle.

    Go Gael's

  4. I have been listening to your podcast this season and I'm always amazed at how you fail to ever give the kids at Canyon Springs any respect. Why is that? Your comments on the Basic game are condescending. You mention that Canyon had the wind to help them in the Basic game as if the wind only blew when Basic had the ball. Really! You fail to mention that Canyon held Basic to 15 points, Vegas (12) and Liberty to (10) points. I guess you would chalk that up to some misfortune by the opponent, and the kids preparation had nothing to do with that. I'm sure the kids at Canyon work hard in practice and listen to your podcast and to constantly have their hard work discredited by your podcast is alarming to what may be the motive behind it. Liberty's lowest scoring games this year were both against Canyon Springs. I know that you're a reporter, and usually that title comes with an unbiased account of what you're reporting, but when it comes to Canyon Springs Football I don't see that, or in this instance hear that. So, just in case my comments make your board I would like to say "Good Season Canyon Springs"

  5. Great year for high school football. Thanks Ray and Case for giving high school sports in Southern Nevada a voice and some extra meaning. The kids in this valley need this type of support the you guys and the Thursday Night Lights team do for them. Thank you.

All ready excited about the upcoming basketball season. Hope the new divisions have the same success.

Also did you know that there is girls high school flag football going on. I'm going to watch that too. Go Rattlers!

  6. I just love listening to Brewer and Keefer podcasts! They bashed the north teams and said how down the north teams were just two weeks ago! Saying that Gorman could easily be a triple digit win over any north team. What Vegas team gave Gorman the game Reed did? None! Then hearing them say that Truckee could beat any 4A team in the north! What are you guys smoking? You guys need to get out more and research a little more on high school football outside the Vegas area. There are several teams up north that can compete. That was obvious when nationally ranked Gorman came up here to play little Reed. They gave them the best game of any team in Vegas. You guys need to give up your gig and find another hobby to analyze! Maybe the state cheer competition!
