The cowboy has lots of friends

Commissioner Tom Collins loves lobbyists and they love him. Read about it at right.

  1. So Adelson didn't RSVP?

Or maybe Collins forgot to invite Adelson, one of his gold-buckle fundraisers?

Collins, the "I can park wherever the **** I want to" DINO.

  2. If Mr.Colins was doing his job for the people of Clark County he would not need to raise so much money for election for a position that pays a good salary. Or is it for his legal defense fund, aka Kincaid-Chauncey?

  3. Tom is a much loved, good old boy, in the stature of the last of the American Cowboys - but, the guy has been living in the past for far too long!

It's been just a couple of years since Tom Collins publicly stuck his foot in his mouth at the Gay Caucus demonstrating his total lack of knowledge about GLBT issues - next, Tom pushed his foot further down his throat (to about the ankle) by responding, when asked, about whether or not he believes in and supports separation of church and state, by saying "(he) supports his church" - then, following that major faux pax, by Tom pushing his foot and ankle even further down his throat (to about the knee) by insulting over half the population by stating that women and the ERA movement almost destroyed the Democratic Party!

I was just one of nearly a hundred, or so, people present that was stunned into shock silence at these unbelievable, and undemocratic, responses - in an open Democratic meeting!

I just hope Tom has had his "come to Jesus" (pun intended) moment and now realizes the gross errors of his ways about the importance of separation between church and state (to all of us), and another about the equality of women (which is important not only to the 52% of women, but, again - all of us) and minorities (which is not only important to a few, or 42% or of us, but, again, ALL OF US)?

I think it's true that, most often, you just "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" - the question is, can an old cowboy learn from his mistakes? I hope so, but have my serious doubts?

It would be nice to see Tom Collins renounce his Adelson donations and divide up the $ 40,000 he got from the worse enemy of the Democratic Party in Nevada by giving about $ 10,000 to the Nevada Democratic Women's Club, another $ 10,000 to the EMERGE Nevada program (that encourages, trains and assists women running for political office) and divides up the remaining $ 20,000 between the Democratic Minority Caucus groups - but, then Tom still needs to make some fundamental, paradigm shifts, in his thinking TOO!

Don't get me wrong, I do (despite myself) really like Tom Collins - hell, it's almost impossible not to like the guy! He reminds me of a country cousin that doesn't know drag racing has evolved from donkeys pulling wagons - and you just have to give him the benefit of the doubt for spending so much time around a wide variety of farm animals and so little around human beings!

If Tom Collins will renounce the error of his ways and apologize (which is really difficult for macho guy types) - I'd be willing to give him another chance...in truth, when you look at his long, service record to the people of Clark County - it is an impressive record on almost all counts (and he has decades of historical knowledge I'd hate to see us lose)!

So, buck up Cowboy, do the right thing, say your apologies, make amends by giving away all of the dirty money to good causes - and stop playing "cowboys and indians" - O.K.?

  4. PUBLIC NOTE TO CHRIS G.: Do the right thing and help Tom by leading by example and giving away all of your Adelson dirty money TOO! We have a Deaf Caucus and Hispanic Caucus that needs some financial help, and we could use some of that filthy "Freedom Watch" money to provide seed money for a Black, Asian and Native American Democratic Caucus organizations!

PUBLIC NOTE TO LAWRENCE WEEKLY: I'm impressed that you gave back Adelson's money, but I would have been even more impressed if you would have publicly renounced him and given the money to a good cause inside the Democratic Party - no offense, I'm just saying..."always keep your friends close and your enemies closer" (and take all the ammo and supplies you can from the enemy)! That's a modern warrior's intepretation of Sun Tsu - feel free to practice these tried and true principles and pass them on!

  5. BTW: Since we are having our May meeting of the Clark County Democratic Party tomorrow in the Clark County Chambers at 11:00 - it would be a perfect time to show up and make these announcements to the entire Clark County Central Committee - again, I'm just saying...

  6. If he's a cowboy I'm your dutch uncle. Let's see how long he lasts on one of those ranches that he and SNWA purchased near Ely, which they are now running into the ground.
