UPDATE: 4-year-old found dead in family’s SUV

(First posted at 11:42 a.m.) A 4-year-old Las Vegas boy who was found dead this morning in the family's SUV had been there for about 17 hours, Metro Police said this evening.

The boy, who was found about 8:25 a.m., was left in the vehicle on Sunday, following a family outing, police said. The boy's body was discovered by a sibling, police said.

The Las Vegas Fire Department responded with paramedics to the 4900 block of East Cleveland Avenue in east Las Vegas and then called Metro's abuse and neglect unit and Clark County's Child Protective Services, police said.

Four children who lived in the home were taken into protective custody pending further investigation, police said. No charges have yet been filed. The case is still ongoing and will be submitted to the district attorney's office for final review.

The Clark County coroner will determine the cause of death.

  1. Why is it relevant that it's an SUV? Severe parental neglect, not a particular type of vehicle, is to blame.

  2. it's a sad situation that we see all of the time here. when is somebody going to be charged with something? or, when will some type of a penalty be enforced? this must stop.

  3. Wow, the SUV Apologists will even comment on THIS story? According to "cctrjkrfan"'s logic, the story should have simply read, "Human dead."

And people forget kids in cars EVERYWHERE, not just Las Vegas.

  4. I know it may be hard to control 7 kids but why didn't anyone realize the 4 yr old was missing from the dinner table and his bedroom.
Kids are never that quiet he must have made a noise when they shut the suv's door-This is a case of child abuse and justice has to speak for this child.

  5. Parents are killing their kids this way because they are not held accountable for there actions our justice system will simply say "oh they have been punished enough" with the loss of a family member and the media coverage,

You dont forget that you have kids that need attention like eating, bathing,
Where were both parents at for 17 hours this can't be explained as forgetting.
This child was being punished for something he did or did not do and as a result the child died. We as members of society have a responsibility to help those that can not help themselves, And if we fail to do so then we are just as guilty for the life that has been taken.

  6. How in the hell does a parent just 'forget' a 4yr old child for 17 hours?????????? These people need to be charged for this crime!

  7. I agree with casinokid, you just cannot forget a young child for that length of time even if you are a crack or hillbilly head.

  8. Its real nice how comments on this post are more abusive than the actual event that took place. When do you ever go by what the media states? Look at the first words "Family outting" Dose that describe a abusive family? How do you or anyone assume 17 hours? How do you know that the kid did not go back outside himself? There was no charge, Get it? No Drugs! No Abuse! Just a innocent FAMILY OUTTING in a expensive SUV showing financial stability. Viewing that there oldest kids are on mission! Dose that seem like a abusive parents? Las Vegas people stop sitting on your judgement seat.

  9. Additionally "Casino Kid" Who makes you God? and to state that this child was being punished. Your quote "This child was being punished for something he did or did not do and as a result the child died."
Where in the hell did you get that information? Did you make up all of this, are you part of the media too? I think you are killing this story with your speculations.

  10. Child services has refused to give the children back for a good reason apparently! And no I am not god and would not claim to be either. I have seen people put in the sweat boxes of P.O.W. camps this tool is the same be it a car in 2008 or a camp in 1971.

  11. What in the hell does owning an 'expensive suv' have to do with 'financial stability'? Anyone willing to pay the price, good credit or bad, can own one. Smoke-screen aside - real PARENTS don't lose track of their kid for ANY AMOUNT of HOURS be it 1 or 17. Just no excuse and these 2 people should pay for their negligence.
