LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Safety in Nevada gets short shift
Tue, Apr 1, 2008 (2:04 a.m.)
I found the Las Vegas Sun’s Sunday and Monday articles on OSHA and construction on the Strip to be both informative and depressing.
The article raised a question that I feel must be answered: Is there one regulatory body, state or federal, in the state of Nevada that isn’t understaffed? After reading how easily the Clark County Fire Department treated the Monte Carlo after a fire, one has to ask a second question: Is there a regulatory body, state or federal, in the state of Nevada that draws a line in the sand and loudly declares, “Rules are rules and they must be followed”?
Am I the only one who thinks the companies and the regulatory agencies are more concerned with rising insurance rates than they are with human life? We can read articles almost daily expressing concern over the speed in which the Chinese are “throwing up buildings” in preparation for the Summer Olympics. Are things that much different here in Nevada?
