The drama is supposed to be reserved for the reality TV show on Spike TV, but with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s latest revelation that he is retired from fighting, the most exciting action involving TUF No. 10 is happening outside the house in Las Vegas. But like they say the show must go on, and this week’s installment while the action is somewhat slow to get started, ends with a big announcement.

No doubt the biggest fight in female mixed martial arts history Saturday night was quite the successful event as Strikeforce’s bout between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos drew 13,524 fans to HP Pavilion in San Jose for an estimated live gate of $750,000. But the show airing on Showtime played second fiddle to UFC’s counter-programming of the promotion’s historic UFC 100 event from July (well, depending on how you view the ratings).

At last Randy Couture can have the dream fight he always wanted, the only problem is the format he’ll be battling Fedor Emelianenko will be set on an electronic stage. The UFC legend announced Saturday that he will appear in EA Sports’ “MMA” video game set to be released sometime in 2010, joining the Russian heavyweight Emelianenko and other non-UFC notables Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Gegard Mousasi.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will re-broadcast several bouts from its landmark UFC 100 show on Spike TV on Saturday night.That just happens to be the same day as a big event for Strikeforce, the promotion that's emerging as UFC's most legitimate competitor. The Strikeforce show, featuring the first-ever female championship fight between Las Vegas' Gina Carano and Cris "Cyborg" Santos, will take place Saturday night at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Sure the Russian heavyweight, regarded by many mixed martial arts pundits as the world’s top fighter, announced that he will be the new cover boy for EA Sports’ upcoming video game titled “EA Sports MMA” — but the Octagon-shattering news UFC fans were hoping for, that Emelianenko would announce he’s signing with the world’s premiere MMA promotion, will have to wait until Friday, if ever.

Yoshihiro Akiyama, Mark Coleman, Jon Fitch, Shannon Gugerty, Dan Henderson, Jon Jones, Dong Hyun Kim, Tom Lawlor and Jim Miller were also tested.

To say Logan Stanton was a little shocked when she found out that UFC president Dana White wanted to meet with her, is a flat out understatement. The 20-year-old model knew White from watching UFC events at various spots in Miami, but obviously she thought that the UFC’s tastes in Octagon girls didn’t exactly match her slender frame. “Dana called up my agency and requested I meet with him. I was kind of unsure why at the time,” Stanton said recalling the life-changing meeting with a little laughter.

So the UFC isn’t mainstream just yet, but Saturday night’s television ratings for “The Ultimate Fighter” finale at the Palms were just another sign that mixed martial arts is gaining ground fast. Spike announced today that season-ending event for TUF No. 9 Team U.S. vs. Team U.K. drew 663,000 viewers in the male 18-34 demographic, outdrawing both the U.S. Open golf on NBC (384,000) and Major League Baseball on FOX (184,000) which aired earlier in the day.

The 45-year-old former heavyweight and light heavyweight champ will take on Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira at UFC 102 on Aug. 29, 2009 in Portland, Oregon. “We’re extremely excited to be heading to Portland,” said UFC president Dana White, of the UFC’s first promotion to the Pacific Northwest.

Lindland to screen MMA film at East Side Cannery tonight

Matt Lindland knows tonight he’s in the right town to truly get some actual feedback about the film based around his life in the fight game. “I’m super excited because Vegas is a fight town with knowledgeable fans who love the sport,” said Lindland, a mixed martial artist who fittingly goes by the nickname “The Law” since the name of the film is "Fighting Politics.” There will an 8:15 p.m. screening tonight of the documentary, which is part of the 2009 Las Vegas International Film Festival, at the East Side Cannery. Tickets are $7 and there will be a Q&A session afterwards with Lindland.
