Infant apparently escapes injury when car strikes stroller

A child riding in a stroller who was struck by a car Thursday appears to have escaped injury. The child’s mother was pushing the stroller about 1:40 p.m. when the vehicle hit the stroller, throwing the child onto the ground, said Officer Laura Meltzer, a Metro Police spokeswoman.

As the morning regulars once again enjoyed breakfast on the patio at the Egg and I, several large boulders sat between them and the cars zipping by on Sahara Avenue. The landscaping boulders were strategically placed before the restaurant’s reopening today to prevent a repeat of last month’s tragedy in which a car launched onto the patio and into the side of the building, seriously injuring 10 people. This morning, there was no trace of the damage from the April 1 crash.

Three of the quilt's panels honoring those from Southern Nevada who have died from HIV/AIDS are on display through the end of the month at the headquarters of Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN), 1120 Almond Tree Lane, Las Vegas. Hours at the office are 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The NAMES Project Foundation, an Atlanta-based organization founded in 1987, is the caretaker of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, a continually growing patchwork of names designed to humanize the devastation and threat of AIDS and bring public attention to the epidemic.
