2009 Sun Youth Forum Scholarship Recipients

Each year, a small selection of students are randomly picked to receive a $1,000 scholarship at the Sun Youth Forum. Here is a quick look at this year’s recipients:

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  Meeting people from different parts of the city and expanding my views and opinions.
  • This scholarship means: It's amazing! It's the first I've received and makes me feel acknowledged for my participating in outside activities, and recognized for my dedication to school.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  Being able to vocalize my opinions and hearing others' views as well.
  • This scholarship means: I'm thankful for the opportunity to receive this scholarship in order to help further my education.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  The discussion, even though their views may be different than mine. I always enjoy hearing others' opinions on how they view the world.
  • This scholarship means: It means I am that much closer to achieving a higher education, preferably at UNLV.

  • This scholarship means: It means a lot because I've been given the opportunity that my parents are not able to fully provide.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  Meeting students from all over the school district.
  • This scholarship means: There would be less that my parents would have to worry about with expenses for college.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  Very opinionated peers and a chance to meet new people.
  • This scholarship means: More money to put towards a great college education and an even better future.

  • This scholarship means: A chance to go to college.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  Giving opinions, having great debates with kids that have much more to offer than myself.
  • This scholarship means: It means that my mom doesn't have to stress the $1,000 that this gave to me. Also, this means that I can better my education by the generous offer that Mrs. Berkley gave to me, and I am extremely thankful. Thank you Mrs. Berkley.

  • Favorite part of the SYF:  The experience of meeting people and debating about problems we face.
  • This scholarship means: It means everything! This scholarship is really quite beneficial to my needs in attending UNLV.
  • Karen Gabitanan won the UNLV scholarship.
