Walt Kelly's Pogo: "I have met the enemy and he is us." While this post is not intended to blame the victims, it is important that we acknowledge our own culpability in this issue. A majority of us elected Jim Gibbons and non-progressive members of the legislature. It is the governor and his supporters who have cut the budget so that resources are not available to do the necessary monitoring of the health care system. A majority of us continue to resist any new taxes or fees to support our health care system. Yet, it is we who complain when government fails to do its job on this matter. The next time you, the affluent citizen of Las Vegas who votes against better government, shows up at an emergency room and cannot get treatment because it is full of people who cannot access health care in any other way, please remember how you voted.
California recalled Gray Davis for much less incompetence than has been exhibited by Gibbons thus far in his term. Recall is the most effective way for the voters to correct a bad situation. Perhaps it is time to send Mr. Gibbons home.
In the prime of minor league baseball, teams chose monikers that reflected their communities. The San Francisco Seals, Hollywood Stars, Oakland Oaks, etc. Some graduated to the major leagues (San Diego Padres). Some reflected the affiliation with the major league team (Visalia Reds, San Jose Giants). Area 51's doesn't really make it in either category. Like too many things these days, affiliations are changed more than underwear. For that reason, I kind of like taking the parent club name to encourage a more lasting relationship. Reno Giants, Las Vegas Rockies sounds nice. Beats the Modesto Nuts.

We would be well served having Ms Marshall as Governor in 2010.
