And lets put it where people will use it. The monorail is a joke because it was done only to make gaming happy and as usual, based only on tourist issues. But, if they would actually put a light rail out to areas where the workers are who need to use it to go to work, or shop......they might actually get some people out of their cars and using it, and make enough ticket money to at least attempt to pay for part of it.

I must have missed something.........where in this article does it say Democrats want to raise taxes?? Seems to me he is saying that people with the money and the clout ought to be putting their money and their clout where their mouths are. That does not equate to Dems raising taxes.

Unfortunately, Nevada just doesn't have a corner on the bad governor market. During 15 years in AZ we impeached one governor and sent another one to jail. I'm sure there are many other states that have lived through having lousy governors.

And hopefully Buckley will lose her interest in being governor and/or the electorate will lose it for her. She's been in the legistature for how many years?? And, only now, when she wants to be governor, because she is going to be term limited, and won't have a political job in a couple of years.... does she bother to start talking about reforming the tax base and trying to make it look like she is doing something about it. What a joke. If she were a true leader, she would have been having town meetings long before this and been trying to get the state as a whole to pull together on a broad tax base measure. Her motives are so obvious its ridiculous.

Is it really an uninformed electorate? Or is it (especially here in Vegas), an electorate that is really different now than it was 12 years ago? In general we have a mobile society these days, and here in particular, with the way Vegas has grown, half the people living here now weren't even here when the initiative was voted on back then. Maybe we need to change the initiative procedure and do the first vote. Then the second vote should take place just a year or 6 months before the initiative would go into effect. At least then there would be somewhat of a chance that the people who will have to live with the law will be the ones who acutally voted on it.

I do find it a little insulting that an elected official (in this case Scow and Johnson) think they can hand pick their successors. Who are they to think they are the only ones who know what is right for our citizens? That kind of thinking does smack of politics as usual in Vegas.......its about the power.

I think Ruaty is the guy I used to have respect for before the comments on Ryan Newman the other day. Those comments just were not necessary, no matter what the personality conflicts.

I miss DW

Unfortunately you are probably right Mike. But, Uncle Sam is getting to be a little like the Wizard of Oz and one of these days someone is going to pull back the curtain.....and there you'll see all us middle class taxpayers. We ARE Uncle Sam, and as much as I love Nascar.....do I really want my middle class taxes going to back up these industries so they can fund rich men's hobbies? Hmmmmmm....

If by "Wide Open Coverage" you mean having that screen in the corner spewing out constant commercials.....I thought it was terrible. Seemed like the commercials were double the usual number of commercials, twice as long and very distracting. I started changing channels and looking for other things to watch and just coming back to the race once in a while to see if the lead had changed.

I agree with tbird64, I'm guessing that a lot of fans felt like I did and just signed on one time to voice their opinion about this one thing. I may even do the same thing myself after finishing here.

Maybe its really the other side of the coin. Maybe our private sector employees get paid too little. Years ago the scenario being touted about Las Vegas was that work was so plentiful and good, even a maid could buy a house. When I moved here 8 years ago......I found out that unless you wanted to work for a casino.....it was hard to find a job that paid a wage that would allow you to pay the high rent/mortgage and still have a life. Maybe we should be looking at what private sector workers (both union & non-union and executive & "clerical") are making compared to the cost of living here.

Now that the special session has been delayed and shortened......maybe the 10th question should be: Is the governor dumb like a fox?
