As far as bbtbrain's comments about him being "white trash" and his unfortunate plights. Your pain and frustration is totally understandable and legitimate. I say this as an African-American male. Your scio-economic segment of the US population is truly a forgotten group in this country. But please don't blame African- Americans or fellow American-Americans as you prefer, for your troubles. Your right this is the greatest country, BUT we unfortunately have a long ways to go before we can truly all be American-American’s. This great country has over 200 years of history of “slicing itself up to a bunch of minority ..stans”. And it has become unfortunate that with the long awaited steps in advancement for minorities in this country over the last 30 odd years, a segment of the population (very low income white people, or “white trash” as you put it) have been set by the waist side. We’ve come so far but still have so far to go, with new issues to tackle.

You are 100% correct Alex aka sunset regarding Mr. Friess’s statements on the 40/40 closing, and the reason Nevada Black leaders objected to those statements…

It was sad that the Mr. Friess didn’t realize the insensitivity of his comments and chose to use those choice words to make his point. But that is ok because one mustn’t always have to be “politically correct”. It was also ok for him to be singled out for those comments because they aren’t politically correct and are without basis. It kind-of points to the ignorance by some white Americans when trying to explain issues regarding race, specifically African Americans.

It’s interesting because though I respect and applaud Mr. Friess’s attempt to explain the failure of the 40/40 business model with the Palazzo. His comments and word parings took him far off base and trumped an opportunity to really explain the true failure or shall I say missed opportunity of the poorly managed and marketed 40/40 venue. I say this because it was an opportunity to create a space that provided a unique experience & be particularly welcoming to those who enjoyed sports, sports bars, hip-hop and pop-culture related entertainment and night life. I believed 40/40’s present business model for its Vegas location was flawed for the fickle Las Vegas market. The venue didn’t know if it wanted to be a high end nightclub or sports bar and consumers were equally confused, especially with the high price points. In a town like Vegas, to have your venue located on the strip with all the tourists, you have to be either or not both.

High end nightclub works well on the strip it you market and brand yourself as such, along with operate the necessary way to stay in business (LV Sands has 2 nightclub venues in its properties that are doing fine and cater to African-Americans equally as well). High end sports bar works well too if you be only that, and market yourself as that and not go over board with prices because that crowd doesn’t want to pay too much. But hybrid high-end overly priced Sports Bar/nightclub with rooms & memberships to rent out like some arena luxury suites or sky boxes is kind of mushy in this Las Vegas market. It has nothing to do with African-Americans, White-Americans, Asian-Americans, or American-Americans!!!!

You sound hurt vsestini! That was an ignorant summarization of your own responsibilities

If it wasn’t for Tark UNLV would barely be half were it is today. He did more for the university than you or I (and I am an alum) ever would. Look at his winning record from 1974-1992 averaging around 80%. Its simple the guy more or less put UNLV on the map. Sorry to break it to you bluntly. We all know athletics in colleges/universities are big time promotional tools for student enrollment, and the fact is many students chose UNLV because of its basketball reputation, and I’m not talking about the athletes.

Note, you have the power to take your UNLV education and degree as far as YOU want it to go! Tark and his recruiting have nothing to do with YOU, and neither does it (in some zany way) “tarnish” your education, not a bit! Its your responsibility!

Plus, the man made a choice to be a second chance coach. Taking in troubled and kids who have all the talent in the world but needed grounding and direction. and someone to trust and believe in. You win some and you lose some but at least you tried. It’s a risk no doubt, but Tark had the heart to take in these kids. What have you done lately for troubled kids with all the talent in the world but need direction

ummmmm.. Who cares...? I'd say 8 days of record and capacity crowds who have turned out thus far.

It’s a hot ticket. Only $20 for all of the games on that day. Chances to see top draft picks from the current draft plus a look at top players from past drafts & recognize names of guys from their past stops who are trying to make rosters. All in the intimate setting that is Cox pavilion. One that gives you up close action on the court but a chance to see, schmooze and have access to coaches, GM's,, legends and celebrities that are moseying about he stands and the arena concourse.

if you are a bball fan, then this is the place to be. Take the kids for a fun day.

hear, hear! vegaslee,

these people complain and complain about this city and state and yet they stay here and do nothing!

50% of all taxes in this state coming from only 1 industry, and people still find a way to wine about said industry. no wonder why we have budget shortfalls in this state, time to share in the burden and ask other industries who enjoy doing business in LV and Nevada to poney up!

news flash to jfnance32...

That marketing "idea" has been common practice at many strip resorts for years....Only now you will begin to see more & more of that type of promotion advertised and marketed on a mass scale. Check many of the Harrah's properties and some of the other casinos in Primm, Laughlin and Pharump. Travel vouchers, cash for gas coupons, airfare comps etc, etc...

It is in no way imperative that Senator Obama should be FORCED into appointing Mrs. Clinton as his VP. The argument about the “popular vote” can be greatly debated and I have already seen 3 scenarios were both candidates are either equal or the advantage goes to Obama. The idea of her winning the popular vote is only true if you count Florida and Michigan. But that too is debatable since both of those elections were flawed and Mrs. Clinton herself said that they wouldn’t count. Clinton’s supporters argue about honoring those who did check the Hilary Clinton box in those elections, but what about honoring those who didn’t get the chance to check an Obama box and instead had to check the undecided box or in many cases didn’t even come out since they knew that the election wouldn’t count and that there wouldn’t even be an Obama box….

Needless to say, never in this country’s history has there been a push to force a candidate to choose one particular VP choice. That is a sign of weakness. We all know that Mrs. Clinton is power hungry and that she probably “needs” that VP spot to fulfill her legacy. But the issue is not that Obama needs to reach out to her supporters and gain their trust, because remember we are all Democrats here. Rather the issue is will Hillary Clinton (and her supporters) be willing to take a back seat and begin to tone down her views and positions in order to allow the nominee to have the last word and say so like a true vice president should. Hillary needs to prove that she (and her supporters) can humble herself enough and begin a tone and presence like a true VP should. Only then can Obama begin to consider her. Believe me, we can’t have a president, a president wanna be, and a former president in the white house. We damn sure can’t have a VP that has her own agenda and undermines the president’s decisions. That is not good for our party nor our country and its citizens.
