I agree with the one poster here who is asking that you keep an open mind. Seems to me from what I read here, many had their mind up from the get go.
Why is it that an educated black man strikes fear in the hearts of many? We all know the republicans have had this mess for going on 8 years and it just got worse year to year. The "its my way or the highway" mode of thought is the absolutely wrong way and McCain seems to be cut from that mold also. He's the shoot first and ask questions later type of guy and that is not a leader.....thats a war monger. McCain otherwise known as Songbird in his POW days, is NOT the right choice at all.

As much as I wanted to see a woman as President and was for Clinton early on, I have to say her actions and words early on to this date have soured my hope for her winning. She has set back women many years. The multiple faces of Clinton, playing the racist card and the gender card etc. etc.
Its time for a new face. One who hasnt been courted by K-Street and hasnt used their title to acquire favors.
You can say what you want about Obama, he has fired up the young voters and thats wonderful. Its their future at stake and they need to get involved. Our Military is hurting and many of the young people are not opting to put that uniform on because they are seeing what little concern our administration has for those giving it all for their country.
Very well put. I agree that Obama may be new to politics but certainly he has the dreams and aspiration to turn the U.S. around and that is what we need right now after 7 plus years of being seen as a country without a decent ruler.
McCain is nothing but a Bush clone and Hillary is nothing but the Clintons revisited.
We need new blood not tainted with the usual problems that most seasoned politicians bring with them to the office.
After all Reagan was an actor with Hollywood values for years YET many thought he had what it took to turn the country around. Much like what we are hearing and seeing about Obama.
I am afraid that some will not want a educated black man in that office. That is something so foreign to their line of thinking they cannot grasp the idea. I pray those who think this way will put their prejudices aside and see that this change is exactly what we are looking for and need badly.
Clinton is self destructing in front of our eyes and thats not good.
She has even pumped up McCain in trying to take Obama down.
Its one thing to try and make your opponent look like that would not be a good choice over her but to pat McCain on the back and herself by saying they have what it takes to be President and saying Obama only has a speech is nonsense.
She has made one comment after another showing she is not ready for that office. I was hoping a woman could be President and still do.....just not this one.
I think Gibbons is a total embarassment for Nevada. His short time in office has proved he cannot run a state flat and simple. Gibbons left him with a surplus and we are now in the red and although the economy has taken its digs at our economy this started happening before the economy really started taking its toll.
Besides Gibbons has had one problem after another in recent years. Investigation after investigation and a very shoddy way the Vegas accusation was handled. Many think the old Sheriff was told to not press or investigate the complaint because Gibbons was running for Governor and the republican party wanted him in come hell or high water.
I say he should get out and get someone in there that has knowledge of running this state before he runs it into the poor house.
Its not a secret he is a womanizer and most of us could care less if he divorces. Dawn should have dumped his butt long ago but I truly think she wanted that office more than he did.
Renters need protection from things like this. They faithfully paid their rent and assumed it was going toward the mortgage payments. Its not fair that renters have no recourse.
Laws need to be made to protect renters from this very thing. What about an apartment complex where 40 plus tenants would have to move if the owner decided to default on the loan?
We need to see some representation for renters so they arent thrown out of their house like this. And seeing it happened to these people more than once or twice should be telling our law makers that the problem is escalating and laws need to be drawn up to help those thrown into this situation through no fault of their own.
Just last week a trailer court here in Vegas had a fire and the power lines were damaged and cut off and the owner was told to upgrade the electric before Nevada Power could reconnect the park. Well the owner said no and all the ones who owned their trailers and just rented the lots were told they need to move. Its speculated that the owner wanted to shut this place down and sell off the property and this is was his golden opportunity. I dont begrduge an owner wanting out but to put all the people there in a tight squeeze like that should be criminal. There must be a better way to handle this and our lawmakers need to put their heads together and come up with a solution.
I posted a comment here but I guess my comments touched a soft spot. Sorry but I speak my mind not what some just want to hear.
You go Oscar!! God knows it cant get any worse than the fool we have in Gov. Gibbons right now. At least when Quinn left he left a surplus. Now since Gibbons the State is showing nothing but red ink on the books and programs are being cut and Gibbons antics and incompetence has grown to HUGE proportions. Kinda sounds like what the Bush administration did to the federal side. Bush came in with a surplus and look were our debt is now! Maybe they're long lost brothers....Gibbons and Bush. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm
And God help us if Young tries for it. Deep down many think that then Sheriff Young hid or loss alot of the evidence that would have put Gibbons in the hot seat when he was accused of attacking that gal in Vegas.
Young's story about the camera situation in the parking facility changed one too many times and seeing Young is a Republican and Gibbons is one, I think word came down from high up to lose, forget, destroy or whatever it took to get Gibbons off the hook so he can get in as Governor. Many are hoping that someone or something will bring the truth forward on this mess Gibbons got into in Vegas and the many messes Gibbons is under the microscope on right now.
Vegas has concentrated itself on the big rollers. Just look at the condos being built. The average Joe that lives here cant afford those. Everything going up lately is for the ones with BIG BUCKS. There was a time when they would cater to the small time gambler and made them feel like a big roller.
Now everything is big ticket items. Most occasional tourists and even most locals cant afford the show ticket prices.
Being a local we have seen over the past 8 mos or so changes being made to the local casinos where less is being offered for the constant players. Comps use to flood the mail boxes with $50.00 or more free money and FREE dinners or $25.00-30.00 off a dinner.
Now the flood is a trickle and its $10.00 free money and $5-10 off dinners. Plus the slot machines are so tight now they squeek as they turn. Playtime is almost non-existent. Some casinos have taken out slot machines thereby cutting the amount they need to hold in reserve based on the number of machines they have so choices are limited now. So your getting less and putting out more and faster than usual. Not a good recipe for the casinos here at all.
The changes are rather obvious to the faithful patron. But these casinos are only cutting their own throat by doing this as their once faithful patron will try and find a casino that will give them more bang for their buck instead of pumping good money after bad.
Some casinos will smarten up when their bottom line really starts to fall because the locals are the ones helping keep their doors open, not the once a year tourist and more tourists wont go to a smaller local casino off the beaten track.
When locals hurt because of higher prices on gas, food and mainstay items, gambling is the first thing they cut esp. when its certain that the casinos are just grabbing the few hundred the local drops in a few hours and gives nothing in return.
Its only going to get worse. The BIG Strip corporations have their latest venture in China to help their bottom line but the smaller local casinos here in Vegas who rely on the locals to keep their doors open will be the most affected.
Locals are seeing it already with comps down to a trickle and play time on the slots just about gone.
Last year we had a mailbox full of comps from dining to free money from all the casinos we have players cards at.
Now the comps are few and far between and have been cut in half if not more.
Locals are going less and spending less. When we have a hard time keeping up with gas prices and food prices and mortgage foreclosures, the very first thing they give up is gambling. The small casinos need to bump their comps up for their regulars otherwise many a small casino will be looking like a ghost town before too long. Enticing players in with "have we got a deal for you" is their only shot at pulling some revenue. When Players feel like they're being taken advantage of, they wont return.
We spent 400 dollars in a few hours playing penny and quarter slots last week at a local casino. Not one machine would give playtime. So out the door we left and we wont return to that casino for a very long time. When we find one that at least gives us some playtime (more bang for our buck) they will get our patronage more regularly.
Just a personal observation but as of late, most casinos, if your a slot player, have really tightened up their machines or slowed comps but some more than others.
Once was a time when play time was prevalent but when you can go through several hundred dollars in a few hours and thats playing the penny and quarter machines, you know things are tight.
Recent trips to Jerry's Nugget is proof. We know that they had suffered a HUGE loss in monies by a ex-employee who manipulated jackpot reports and pocketed hundreds of thousand of dollars. Also although no report is out there on their management team, but it appears they have a new General Manager that has changed the comps, the promos and even the inside of Jerry's and not for the best. Even employees have been let go and they are now down to 1 cashier cage. So many changes usually means new Management and their ideas are not always in the best interest of the casino.
Many slot machines were taken out. Yes it gives more walking room in the casino proper but the players choices are very limited now and Jerry's was and still is a small casino in comparison to many others around it. Even the Cafe is not consistent on their quality of food or service lately.
The Poker/Bingo room which has been under construction for a year or more is still closed and asking workers there about it opening and no one has a clue on if and when it will happen.
This is a personal observation but because we have been frequenting Jerry's for years, changes this obvious are very noticeable to one who was a faithful player at Jerry's.
We know the economy is bad but when the casinos commit the ultimate sin by making the frequent patron feel totally taken by not even giving play time, its the first sign that the casino will be either looking to sell or close in the near future. We know they are trying to re-coup their monies stolen but we had hoped it wouldnt have been on the backs of its faithful patrons.
With the economy as bad as it is, casinos are hurting BUT so are also the ones who keep their doors open....US.
The first thing most of the locals here cut back on in a struggling economy is going to the local casinos or eating out. Many here are either not going as frequently, not going at all or taking way less in monies for their few hours out. Those are not necessaties and can be omitted in a heartbeat from everyday life.
Local casinos must realize that to keep those patrons coming in and helping that casinos bottom line is to at least give them play time or they will not return.

Gibbons is such a disgrace to the State of Nevada. The only concern he has is his right to womanize and how much money can hit his pockets other than that, he has no concern for our kids, for our cities or for the State.
And this is the same man that said he will run for another term. He needs to come out of fantasy land and see what almost everyone in the State thinks of him even some of the republicans who put him in office wouldnt dare back this man now for fear they would be labled a nut job and never see reelection themselves.
