One of the hottest celebrity nightspots in New York City is about to open on the Strip. In fact, the countdown for 1 OAK is now just 10 days away. Sexy singer Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas will officially open 1 OAK on New Year’s Eve after a marketing campaign proclaiming it’s 1 Of A Kind status.
Scott Sartiano, who is a co-owner of the Manhattan celebrity hangout, told me that he’s keeping as much of the intimate vibe as possible, although he admits that his new Mirage venue will be bigger and more over the top. Mirage President Felix Rappaport introduced me to Scott at the Kardashians’ launch party for the family’s celebrity lifestyle boutique Kardashian Khaos last Thursday.
“Fergie was top of our list of the celebrities we wanted to open it in Vegas. As a regular in our New York location, she was our first choice. She agreed so quickly, we never had to think of anybody else -- and she wanted to do it,” he told me smiling. “Partnering with the Light Group and MGM for the great Jet space was perfect timing and a perfect fit.”
Scott says that 1 OAK has been the hottest club in New York for the past five years. “All of our regulars from Europe and back East are always in and out of Vegas, so that makes a loyal client base to add to all our new friends on the West Coast.”
Inside the former Jet, guests will experience a total transformation with the top-quality John Avalon Series 3 sound system, one of the most expensive ever installed in Las Vegas. The two-room set-up is still there in the sense of one small private room, but the larger room is now set up in multiple levels. Revelers will be able to dance on a central dance area or at the modular banquettes, which will be arranged with tables for more conversational get-togethers and ease to watch DJs and celebrity hosts and performers.
Trademarks of the New York club include its wall of poems, circular chandeliers, black-and-white herringbone tiles and surrealist artist Roy Nachum’s murals. The team is boasting that the artwork, layout and ambience have never been seen here.
Scott told me: “I don’t want to make any comparisons with clubs that already exist in Las Vegas. We will simply be very different. You have to see it and experience it to immediately understand the difference.” Vegas DeLuxe can make one comparison: Some of our mega-clubs can hold more than 5,000 revelers, whereas 1 OAK’s playground is for 1,700 partygoers.
Expect the Day of the Doormen to be back in vogue keeping the balance of A-listers and regular guests just right for the club that doesn’t need a VIP section because it’s all VIP.
