A Few Best Men
It’s Monday, and we’re starting out with …
WICKED WHISPERS & RACY RUMORS
Those talks about an Olivia Newton-John mini-residency here are continuing, but it won’t be until next spring because the Aussie singer has two opening events planned for her cancer hospital in Sydney and the global launch of her starring role in “A Few Best Men” this summer. Here’s a YouTube preview of the film:
The 63-year-old “Grease” star is still going strong and is rather wild!
DJ Pauly D (“Jersey Shore” and “The DJ Pauly D Project”) is telling close Las Vegas friends that he’s buying a house here to be full time in Sin City. I’m reliably told that Strip headliner Marie Osmond is buying her own private plane in order to commute between her Flamingo shows with Donny and L.A., where she will now tape her daily Hallmark talk show debuting this summer.
Which former child actor now in between the first and second seasons of his new TV series will guest host for as long as a month at Chippendales at the Rio?
Hot off the grill! Chef Wolfgang Puck has launched a free app for iPhone and iPod users that provides exclusive new recipes, cooking videos, his tips and tricks and a one-touch click to make reservations at any of his seven Las Vegas restaurants.
Mandalay Bay chef Charlie Palmer, who plans to open a hotel downtown next year, has just opened his second one -- the 79-room, Victorian era Mystic in San Francisco’s Union Square. His first was the Hotel Healdsburg in California’s wine country.
Valentino in the Venetian owner Pierro Selvaggio flew one of the world’s best butchers, Dario Cecchini, from Italy to help celebrate his Santa Monica, Calif.’s flagship’s 40th anniversary. He also flew in our Valentino chef Luciano Pellegrini to assist on the huge wood-fired grill.
My friend Italian food writer Faith Willinger flew over from Rome for the celebration attended by a L.A. chefs who regularly make pilgrimages to Dario’s farm and restaurant kitchen to learn his techniques. He signed Italian aprons for guests and promised that his next U.S. trip will be to Valentino’s here.
HOMEMADE WINNER: Hometown racecar driver Scott Gafforini won the 50-lap NASCAR Super Late Model run on opening night of the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend, but not without some rocky moments.
It took three attempts to start the race because of spins and one engine fireball, and caution flags went up each time to order restarts. Scott even fessed up to cutting off his teammate Dennis Rock in one incident because he was driving too fast. Scott raced in one of two cars the family team built at home over the winter months. Bravo!
SHAYNE & SHAUNIE CELEBRATE: Sexy celebrity entrepreneur Shayne Lamas celebrated the launch of her skincare line Lamas Organics with husband Nik Richie at the Paris’ Sugar Factory American Brasserie and then Chateau Nightclub & Gardens.
After dinner, the reality TV star chose a pair of Sugar Factory studded jeans for herself and goodies for her new baby girl, Press Dahl. On the red carpet, the new mom of 5 months was radiant in a vintage sparkling gold Versace mini and tan Mui Mui Mary Jane pumps.
The celebrity weekend at SFAB continued with Shaunie O’Neal of VH1”s “Basketball Wives.” Shaq’s ex-wife donned a sparkling pink Backstage dress and sky-high Giuseppe Zanotti black stilettos and after dinner loaded up on Gummy Bears, Couture Pops and Jellybean Sours before partying at Gallery Nightclub in nearby Planet Hollywood.
RYE RYE AT FREAK FRIDAY: Rapper, singer and actress Rye Rye hosted at Lavo and performed her songs “Boom Boom” and “Never Will Be Mine” at the second DJ Reflex Freak Friday party. At one point, she put down the mic for a dance break, with revelers cheering on her moves. She dined downstairs with friends before her nightclub appearance.
Author and singer Deana Martin, daughter of the late Dean Martin, unveiled a bronze sculpture by Lance Richlin of her famous Rat Pack father, at Regis Gallerie in the Venetian.
Actors Kristen Ruhlin, Daniel Nguyen, Tenille Houston, Janna Van Heertum and Tyler Barnes, stars of the upcoming romantic comedy “She Wants Me,” celebrated their film at MGM Grand. Their festivities included Wet Republic, Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak and Tabu Ultra Lounge, where they partied to the sounds of DJ Ikon.
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Mya watched Criss Angel’s “Believe” at the Luxor before her appearance at nearby LAX. Lance Bass of ’N Sync fame dined at Tao with friends. Electro-pop duo Blackcards spinned at Pure in Caesars Palace.
New York-based models Constance Jablonski and Charlotte Di Calypso celebrated their birthdays at 1 OAK in the Mirage, and their model friends joined them. The night’s performers included Dirty Nasty, Beardo and Flavor Flav. Cameron Boyce (Luke Ross on the Disney Channel’s “Jessie”) dined at Buca di Beppo at the Excalibur for a friend’s pre-wedding rehearsal dinner.
DJ Alesso, who made a surprise appearance during DJ Tiesto’s season-opening set at Encore Beach Club on Sunday afternoon, is a hop, skip, jump at nearby XS.
The Area 51 Exhibit: UFOs -- Myth or Reality at the National Atomic Testing Museum is a new attraction, and on the heels of reported UFO sightings over the Strip, we take a tour. Plus, wrap-ups of the sold-out Florence + the Machine concert at Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool and Weekend 2 of the ever-popular 2012 Coachella.
