Nightclub and Bar in Las Vegas
The figures are staggering: More than 31,000 bar, nightclub and beverage professionals arrive today for the 27th Annual Nightclub & Bar Convention. They’ll check out more than 600 brands, brewers and even a Bytox hangover prevention and remedy patch. They’ll celebrate and visit the 22 Las Vegas businesses that made the Top 100 list of biggest-grossing venues in America.
Fifteen of the Las Vegas establishments are in the Top 30. Eight of the Strip’s nightclubs are in the Top 10. Marquee at the Cosmopolitan topped the list with more than $70 million in revenue during its first year of business. XS at Steve Wynn’s Encore was close on their heels with $60 million-plus, and Tao in the Venetian was third, also with $60 million-plus. Its sister clubs Lavo in the Palazzo and the Manhattan outpost brought in more than $25 million each.
The other Las Vegas entries in the Top 10 are Pure at Caesars Palace, LAX in the Luxor, Haze in Aria, Surrender in Encore and the Bank in the Bellagio. Altogether, the 100 venues generated revenue totaling $1.4 billion -- check out the entire list with revenues at LasVegasSun.com.
It’s going to be a star-studded convention with Spike TV’s “Bar Rescue” host and executive producer Jon Taffer and comedian Pauly Shore handling keynote speeches, while guests include Toby Keith launching his Wild Shot Mezcal (presumably in a red Solo cup) and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Dennis Rodman serving rival energy drinks on the convention floor.
Here are scenes of last year’s convention posted on YouTube.
The kickoff party is tonight at Caesars Palace, followed by Lil Jon’s Platinum Party at XS in Encore, plus, Tuesday’s Top 100, for which I served as one of the judges, will be at Marquee with Ne-Yo as the MC promoting his new Malibu Red (coconut rum and tequila). Toby takes part in Tuesday’s noon ribbon-cutting at the Las Vegas Convention Center, when exhibit booths open for business.
Each evening of the three-day convention, there will be a Happy Hour event at Lavo with Jon making appearances. His “Bar Rescue” experts chef Brian Duffy, Nancy Hadley and Elayne Duke also will appear with tips to help boost business for owners and their venues.
Concepts featured this year include iPhone/iPad apps solely for the beverage industry, with CityCheers.com, GroupToast.com and JumpRope.com; lighted menus for low-lit bars and nightclubs; and backhouse tours at Marquee, XS and the Cosmopolitan.
There’s no shortage of beverages: Jim Beam will display 13 bourbon brands on the show floor, Miller Coors brings in its official bus NASCAR and sports bar and mixologists from “Hot Mixology” will serve colossal cocktails.
And that drinking patch? The Bytox patch includes a complex of B vitamins, which help the body function on a day-to-day basis, so it quickly replenishes what’s lost during the consumption of alcohol. Bytox says it reduces the side effects of alcohol consumption. The zero-calorie patch can be used before, during or after a night out for hangover relief.
Party in style as long as you wish -- until sleep takes over!
