Our sexiest Strip showgirls will shed their glitter and gowns to model bikinis in a beauty battle against the supermodels in February’s blockbuster Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. S.I. photographers shot 12 of our stunners in a green-screen studio set up Tuesday at our Las Vegas Convention Center, exactly as we had first reported in Wicked Whispers & Racy Rumors two weeks ago.
It was all under wraps, but I have learned the lineup: Melody Sweets was one of two “Absinthe” stars, several of the “Fantasy” topless temptresses including lovely Lorena Peril from the Luxor, brunette bombshell Jennifer Romas from “iCandy Burlesque” at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops and one of the Sirens of T.I. pirate pretties.
It will be a multipage layout in the top-selling magazine. The cover supermodel will be revealed on “Late Night With David Letterman,” then all the swimsuit stunners fly here for a long weekend of parties and events likely to be at the Hard Rock Hotel. S.I. and our Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority renewed a three-year contract in February.
Our showgirls will join them for the festivities. I’m reliably told that the local lasses also filmed video promos that will be used in a S.I. teaser “Win a Trip to Las Vegas” contest where the winner attends the L.V. parties.
LIGHT OPENS IN MARCH: After months of rumors reported here, Cirque du Soleil and the Light Group confirmed today their collaboration with MGM Resorts for a new nightclub, Light, in March to replace Rumjungle at Mandalay Bay. This is the first full-blown nightclub from Cirque. Light execs will merge cutting-edge creativity with music to produce a new kind of nightlife experience. The chic, 38,000-square-foot venue will feature state-of-the-art production, theatrics and world-renowned DJs and performers.
“The nightclub will serve as a laboratory, very much like our special events and projects have done in the past, for different and new artistic possibilities,” said Cirque founder Guy Laliberte. The partners say Light will play with senses and offer far more than the traditional nightclub. DJs and performers will be coupled in performance elements and visuals provided by video mapping, lighting, sound and special0effects experts, avant-garde costumes and choreography.
Spearheading the new venture is Light Group founder Andrew Sasson and music-industry exec Amy Thomson, manager of artists including Swedish House Mafia, who worked on the development, music and marketing of Light. Andrew commented: “This partnership … is the ultimate theatrical nightlife venue.” Daniel Lamarre, Cirque president and CEO, added: “We have the opportunity to rethink the nightclub experience and apply our creative and artistic signature to different audiences and live experiences.” The list of DJs and acts will be announced at HaveYouSeenTheLight.com..
