It’s a Columbus Day holiday weekend, and back East the leaves are in peak fall foliage with festivals marking the changeover to chilly nights ahead. Here in the desert, we’ve still got bright, sunny and warm weather -- but slightly cooler nights to enjoy the outdoors without scorching heat. That means more outside entertainment attractions as we get jackets and wraps ready.
It was the week that country star Garth Brooks stunned us with the news that he’d reached the end of his three-year contract with Steve Wynn. Since his original five-year contract was open ended, we guessed he’d be around for at least another two years and jet in whenever he wanted, but not so. His two remaining weekends are Oct. 26 and 27 and then the final wrap Nov. 16 and 17.
That’s going to make producers of the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill “Soul2Soul” concerts at the Venetian and Shania Twain’s “Still the One” residency at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace breathe a little easier. The country royalty kick off in December.
Comedians David Spade and Drew Carey’s Improv-a-Ganza crew duke it out, and music clocks wind to yesteryear with Grand Funk Railroad and the Lettermen. For more current tastes, Melissa Etheridge is at the Joint, and Jason Mraz is at Red Rock Resort.
Party time! It’s a Baller’s Ball blockbuster with L.A. Clippers star Chris Paul (who hosted the ball back in June at Lavo in the Palazzo, as well) and hip-hop master Busta Rhymes at Tao in the Venetian. The Clippers are here in the first-ever NBA pre-season exhibition game against the Denver Nuggets.
Clippers vs. Nuggets
So now it’s time to run the court, score an alley-oop and throw a winning, three-point shot downtown to close out the game. Let’s whistle for the ref over this week’s flagrant Royal Robin Rundown of attractions:
