For the second time in 24 hours, the joint will be jumping at MGM Grand Garden Arena with another monster lineup of music giants. Our The Venetian residency headliners country king Tim McGraw and his wife, country queen Faith Hill, have recruited an all-star lineup for the taping of his “Superstar Summer Night” that airs as a 2-hour CBS special on Sunday, May 19.
It’s an eclectic musical group when you consider Tim has added pop, rock and rap stars, including a rare appearance by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame who has sold more than 100 million records during a career that’s spanned more than 40 years.
Call him a guitarist and songwriter of blues to country, but his “Blue Moon Swamp” in 1997 won his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, which followed his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. He’s still going strong with his ninth solo album, “A Song for Everyone,” out May 28.
There’s a collaboration that sums it up best, with Nelly and hot ACM New Artist of the Year winner Florida Georgia Line (Tyler Hubbard from Monroe, Ga., and Brian Kelley from Ormond Beach, Fla.) -- and picture Pitbull and Ne-Yo alongside Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum.
Newly crowned Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan hardly has time to savor Sunday night’s achievements at the 2013 ACM Awards -- he served as a first-time co-host alongside Blake Shelton, also won for Vocal Event of the Year and wore really tight jeans, per Shelton -- before he’s back to singing for his supper on Tim’s tribute. Other artists include Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, The Band Perry and Dierks Bentley.
Tim, a 15-time ACM Awards winner, is using the TV special to kick off the 2013 touring season and raise funds and awareness for ACM’s charity Lifting Lives. Faith is a 15-time ACM Awards winner, as well.
The taping starts at 7:30 p.m. today for the May 19 special on CBS.
