It’s been a month of wacky weather in Las Vegas that I followed daily on the Las Vegas Sun website from Europe: thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rains, flooding. With temperatures still topping 100 degrees, we’re now going to get ice downtown complete with penguins on glaciers. Relax! I haven’t lost my mind in the blur of overindulgence of bold Tuscan wines.
The folks at First Friday are shaking up their format by cooling down with a unique “antARTica” celebration with Animal Planet’s hit TV show “Tanked” joining the fun with a custom-built aquarium photo booth. In addition to more than 75 vendors and 20 food trucks, the glacier exhibits will keep the penguins pristine.
Since we cover the entire spectrum of entertainment here, let’s go from cold to steamy hot with the uninhibited and hedonistic antics of porn princess Linda Lovelace.
In the 1970s, she literally began today’s porn explosion with the now-classic “Deep Throat.” Her story of fame, abuse and betrayal is a new film, “Lovelace,” from Academy Award-winning directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and they will be with their stars Amanda Seyfried and Sharon Stone at this weekend’s Las Vegas premiere at Planet Hollywood.
Music strikes a major chord with Britain’s One Direction heartthrobs causing pandemonium at Mandalay Bay for not one but two sold-out nights. Their first movie opens Aug. 30 to explain their phenomenal rise to fame from humble British beginnings for the fearless five, including the headline tabloid titan Harry Styles, who watched Cirque du Soleil’s “O” at Bellagio on Thursday night.
Also in Las Vegas: Bruno Mars, Hall & Oates, Dave Koz, Debbie Reynolds and Rick Springfield in concerts on and off the Strip.
Please support our beloved charity Opportunity Village when World Juggling Federation President Jason Garfield presents an hourlong fundraiser at Summerlin’s Starbright Theater to demonstrate his skills that won him the title of “world’s best juggler.”
