Hot off the grill!
This year’s third-annual holiday season Winter in Venice hosted on the Strip by the Venetian and the Palazzo will run 49 days starting Nov. 18 and will star celebrity chefs Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse.
Hotel executives promise me that the fan-favorite ice-skating rink will be rebuilt above the Venetian’s romantic outdoor Grand Canal with thousands of lights hanging over it as larger-than-life snowflakes.
Multiplatinum-selling Irish singing sensation Celtic Women will present their Home for Christmas Symphony Tour. Every night, there will be a holiday parade, strolling musicians, a light show, the 65-foot Christmas tree lighting and a 3D projection “ Light of Venice” transforming the clock tower using state-of-the-art digital technology.
In addition to holiday-themed prix-fixe menus from the two hotels’ restaurants with a Winter in Venice cocktail menu, there will be a mixology contest with experts Tony Abou Ganim, Dale de Groff and Francesco Lafranconi.
The waterfall gardens of the Palazzo also will be transformed into a fantasy winter wonderland with ice branches, 20-foot frosted trees and crystal ice ponds with white and pearl peacock statues set among the red-beaded pinecones and poinsettias.
Chef Sam Marvin hosted a sneak preview of his new Echo & Rig steakhouse and butcher shop in Tivoli Village on Tuesday morning. The two-level restaurant opens to the public on Friday.
I’m hearing that “Top Chef” star Angela Sosa has partnered with our Best Models chief Ken Henderson to give a new look to his Poppy Den restaurant and menu at Tivoli Village.
Ken owns the chandelier-decorated Pizza Ultra Lounge there and is opening a banquet dining facility there next month.
