Adele Rolling in the Deep
London sources reported Sunday that Grammy Award-winning singer Adele might be headed to Las Vegas thanks to mentoring from Caesars Palace headliner Sir Elton John. Two MTV channels and a British newspaper quoted contacts close to the British pop princess saying that she has been offered a multimillion-dollar deal for a string of Las Vegas performances.
“Adele is at the top of the Las Vegas hit list, and she’s seriously considering it as an option,” MTV reported. “She wants to get back to performing but doesn’t want to go on the road so soon after becoming a mum. … A Las Vegas residency would mean she could settle with her family and record her third album all at once.”
Presumably that could be at the Studio at the Palms, which has hosted many pop superstars. Sunday’s edition of the Daily Star reported, “Rather than tour the world, she would get to settle in one place as she gets to grips with motherhood. She has been picking Sir Elton John’s brain on the subject. She’s been asking for his advice, and he’s the right person to ask having spent years at Caesars Palace.
“Elton has been like a godfather to her recently, helping her settle into life as a superstar while dealing with the challenges of being a parent. She talked with him about her fears of singing live again. He’s eased her mind about returning to the stage. He said she should return to playing live, as she has such a great gift.” Following my early Sunday tweet, gossip guru Perez Hilton also posted the possible Las Vegas run story late Sunday night.
The 24-year-old English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist released her debut album, “19,” in 2008 and her second album, “21,” in early 2011, which has sold more than 25 million copies. “21” won her six Grammy Awards last year, including Album of the Year, equaling the record set by Beyonce for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night.
Adele is the first female in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three singles in the Top 10 at the same time and the first female artist to have two albums in the Top Five of the Billboard 200 simultaneously. Her James Bond movie title track “Skyfall” won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and is nominated for an Academy Award this Sunday.
Adele canceled parts of her debut U.S. tour in 2008 and also canceled two tours after her 2011 North American tour to undergo laser microsurgery in Massachusetts in November 2011 for a vocal chord hemorrhage. Her comeback was at last year’s Grammys, winning in all six of her nominated categories.
Adele, who credits Pink as her major musical inspiration, took time off last year to have her first baby, a boy born in October. Now she’s ready to get back to recording her third album and performing, and it might well all happen here.
