Editor’s Note: While Robin Leach takes his traditional summer vacation under the Tuscan sun and along The Amalfi Coast in Italy, many of our Strip personalities have stepped forward in his absence to pen their own words of wisdom. We continue today with hair guru to the stars Michael Boychuck of Color at Caesars Palace and Life Spa + Salon in Summerlin.
Once again, it’s time for the hardest-working man in entertainment to take his annual retreat to Italy! Robin, I hope you are enjoying your time away and get some much-needed down time.
Every year when Robin Leach asks me to write a guest column, I am always happy to have the opportunity to do a favor for my friend, as well as thank all of the people in my life who continue to make Las Vegas such an awesome place to work and live.
For starters, what is Robin Leach’s column without stars? I’ve had the opportunity to work with many talented celebrities throughout the year, including Jennifer Harmon, Deborah Gibson, Vince Neil, Alicia Jacobs and Susan Anton. It is difficult to believe, but I have been working with Paris Hilton for 19 years now. It’s been an exciting year working with all of these amazing people.
One of the biggest events of my year occurred last July with Robin and my gorgeous friend, actress, model and 1995 Miss USA Shanna Moakler, hosting the grand opening of my new salon, Life Spa + Salon at Life Time Athletic in Summerlin. Both friends donated their time to come support my new business, which made me feel incredibly lucky. We even raffled off a puppy and other prizes to raise money for my favorite Las Vegas charity, The Animal Foundation.
Now that I have a neighborhood salon, along with Color at Caesars Palace, I have had a chance to work with more locals than ever. Because it is our mission to make all of our clients look like stars, we have introduced a new program called The A-List. We offer new product and service specials at both salons throughout the year. This is the first time in Life Time Athletic’s history, with more than 100 locations, that they have brought in a stylist to operate their salon. It was a risk for them, but John Reilly, a senior vice president with the company, believed Summerlin residents were looking for an experienced team of stylists to trust with their beauty needs.
In turn, John trusted my team and me to take on operations and open Life Spa + Salon by Michael Boychuck. I’m proud to say that it is now the go-to salon in Summerlin, and words can’t express my gratitude to John, General Manager Gene Smith and everyone with Life Time Athletic.
I have exciting news to report for Color. With the help of Color’s original designer, my good friend Faye Resnick, we will expand the salon to feature a Goldwell color bar and Kevyn Aucoin makeup center. Goldwell has long been the hair color of choice at Color, and now my clients will be able to enjoy the complete Goldwell experience. Kevyn Aucoin’s makeup center within the salon will be the first of its kind. Clients will now have access to test and purchase Kevyn’s exceptional products without having to leave Color.
Being able to expand the salon is an exciting opportunity, one that wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of Caesars Palace President Gary Selesner. Color once again stands out as the luxury salon on the Strip, where style and beauty is a luxurious experience for locals, Las Vegas visitors and celebs alike.
The expansion is not my only new project. Recently, I launched my Michael Boychuck Online Hair Academy. The academy offers hairstylists insights and techniques that I have picked up over the years of working in the industry. It also includes insights from many of my trusted staff on cutting and styling techniques, plus, bridal styles, hair extensions and much more.
I am excited and honored to announce that in 2014, I will once again be a judge in the Miss Nevada USA Pageant. I have been fortunate enough to have been a judge for the past four years, as well as work with many of the Miss USA contestants.
Recently, I had the opportunity to work with 2013 Miss Nevada USA Chelsea Caldwell and 2013 Miss Teen Nevada USA Amanda Jenkins. Both ladies are talented and gorgeous, and I am incredibly proud to have worked with them on their road to the Miss USA Pageant. Chelsea was a Top 15 finisher in 2013, and I am excited to see how Amanda does in the upcoming Miss Teen USA Pageant.

We’ll be back Sunday with guest columns from Maren Wade, who takes a performer’s view on the newly proposed entertainment council that hopes to rescue dwindling Strip theater ticket sales. Plus, Sean Dunn takes us behind the saucy and scandalous scenes at The Act.

Transport yourself to the opulent and excessive Roman Empire at Caesars Palace. But the ever-changing Caesars Palace is far from ancient. The hotel and casino is constantly raising the bar for what visitors can expect in a Vegas resort experience.
Caesars Palace features 3,348 rooms and suites in five towers, including the new luxury boutique Nobu Hotel and Restaurant, which opened Feb. 4, 2013, in the totally remodeled Centurian Tower. Caesars features 129,000 square feet of gaming space, including the Strip’s largest poker room and a 250-seat sports book. Other amenities include about two dozen restaurants, a four-level shopping mall, four pools, a spa, Pure and Poetry nightclubs and Pussycat Dolls.
Dining options include restaurants from world-renown chefs Guy Savoy, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsay and, on Feb. 4, 2013, Nobu Matsuhisa.
You never know what characters you’ll run into at Caesars with regular performers like Jerry Seinfeld, Bette Midler, Elton John and maybe even the emperor himself.
