Former "Beverly Hills 90210" star Ian Ziering is packing in the girls as guest host of the Chippendales show at the Rio -- and he's enjoying every minute of it, so much so that he wants to do more in the adult burlesque revue -- and if his run isn't extended at month's end he'll certainly be back for a repeat engagement.
"I'm having a blast" he told me after his debut. "I'm enjoying every minute of this. I've already asked if I can join the guys' lineujp for more dancing. It's something I've never done before and it's as natural as fish in water. It's more fun than I imagined -- and a real thrill. The girls in the audience are wild. I've never seen anything like it -- and it makes you feel a real stud.
"I've become 'Magic Ian'," he said, referring to the "Magic Mike" movie character played by Channing Tatum in the 2011 Steven Soderbergh film. (You can click here for my Q & A with "Shirtless Steve Saunders from Beverly Hills 90210.")
Frisky females flung themselves at him during the show at the Rio. Now remember, he's 49 and the happily married father of two young daughters, one born just a month ago!
"My wife, Erin, is cool with this," he said. "She's loving the fact that all the girls want me but she's got me. For me, it provides the opportunity to show a totally different talent and a totally different side to me. It will lead to more opportunities in Hollywood as a result."
Chippendales producers watched with me and said: "Ian is the best. He's a natural. He's flung himself into this, got everything down very quickly and keeps wanting to do more. We're going to let him in the second week. After seeing and hearing the reaction, if he wants to talk about a longer stay or return back later on, we are totally open to it.
"He and we have a real hit on our hands. The great thing is that he gets along well with all the other guys in the show and they've given him a warm welcome. They really admire his enthusiasm and professionalism.
"He's completely comfortable going bare-chested, ripping off his T-shirt and throwing it into the audience. We knew he'd be good but he's far better than we envisioned him doing this."
Our thanks to photographer Dense Truscello for her opening night photos and to contributing videographer Richard Corey for his YouTube video.
Ian, who dropped 25 pounds to be in top physical shape for the hosting gig, is at the show until June 30.
