2013 Miss Nevada USA Chelsea Caswell
It was the first time a “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood audience had witnessed an onstage marriage proposal, and it also surprised stars Coco Austin, Josh Strickland and cast members. Just as the curtain came down, choreographer Etienne Carreira ran onstage at the theater and went down on bended knee for his girlfriend, Las Vegas dancer Sophia Monica.
He proposed, she said yes, the cast applauded, and the audience — some in tears — cheered. Meantime, curvy Coco, who has extended her headliner run as Bo Peep in “Peepshow” through September, was invited to film scenes for “Think Like a Man, Too” shooting at Planet Hollywood. “It’s pretty cool,” Coco said.
CRISS IN CEMENT: More on the dangerous demonstration magician Criss Angel will attempt Wednesday night outside The Mirage when he is “buried alive” in cement. He tells me that two people have already lost their lives attempting this cheat-death stunt.
To double the fear factor, he will perform it above ground. That means “no trap doors” for escape. You can be a part of the audience to watch from a closed-off section to see there’s nothing below, above or around him as cement is poured.
VINCE FAME: Congratulations to hometown rocker Vince Neil and his Motley Crue pals on their weekend induction onto the Walk of Fame at Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut. Here’s the YouTube video of the ceremony. Vince is winding down his tour with the band this weekend in Atlantic City, where I’ll join them before they return here.
The band has a 19-day run at The Hard Rock Hotel starting in September. They say there’ll be one more finale tour to tie into their final album, and then they’ll call it quits. Vince tells me he will continue performing with his own band.
DUELING PAGEANTS: The contestants in the 2013 Miss USA Pageant on June 16 at Planet Hollywood have posted their “Road to the Crown” videos; check out our Miss Nevada USA Chelsea Caswell’s biography in the YouTube video. She’s a manager at Andrea’s in Steve Wynn’s Encore but will stay at the rival Strip hotel for the pageant.
The Miss USA Organization revealed this morning that E! news anchor Giuliana Rancic will host with Nick Jonas, who also will perform with brothers Kevin and Joe. The Style Network’s Jeannie Mai will handle backstage duties during the NBC telecast.
Meantime, tickets go on sale this week for the rival 65th Miss Nevada Pageant on June 14 and 15 at Texas Station. It brings an end to the reign of UNLV student Randi Sundquist, who will crown the new winner who will represent our Silver State when the Miss America Pageant returns to Atlantic City mid-September with “The Bachelor’s” Chris Harrison and Lara Spencer of “Good Morning America” as co-hosts.
SPEED-OH! Comedy king Brad Garrett will host 1,000 runners and Strip entertainers in a 1-mile run Downtown on June 18 to raise funds for our beloved charity Opportunity Village. Athletes are encouraged to wear bikinis, Speedos and shorts. Entry information: OpportunityVillage.org.
CELEBRITY COOKS: The segments of our Las Vegas celebrity chefs in the kitchen air this week on Marie Osmond’s talk show on The Hallmark Channel, and to start it off Monday, she was immortalized in Buca di Beppo’s marinara sauce — well, her handprints were. Terry Fator, “Jersey Boys” stars and yours truly were among those on the grill at Buca.
Tiger Woods raised more than $800,000 from his Tiger Jam 15 poker and golf tournaments, the Kid Rock concert and his dinner and auctions at Mandalay Bay events here last weekend.
Tickets are on sale for two Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Oct. 19 and 26.
Check out the iconic shot of rocker Dave Navarro in a bathtub featured at Rock Paper Photo Gallery in The Hard Rock Hotel. It’s a photograph by Denise Truscello, who often contributes to Vegas DeLuxe.
Oscar-winning “Moonlight” actress Olympia Dukakis plays “Rose” at The Smith Center. She’s toured the world performing the one-woman show since starting out in London in 1999.
Comedienne Rita Rudner is back at The Venetian Showroom.
Brad Garrett appears with Carl Labove and Rob Magnotti at his MGM Grand Comedy Club through Sunday.
Trumpeter, composer and conductor David Perrico and his 16-piece band Pop Evolution have a new bi-weekly home at Stratosphere, and half of all proceeds every other Tuesday go Las Vegas Academy of the Arts.
DJs Kid Conrad and Alie Layus are at Moon at the Palms.
We preview Light, Eclipse and Daybreak at Mandalay Bay that set the wheels in motion for an epic nightlife DJ battle this weekend, and The Scintas have their grand opening at The D without sister Chrissi. Catering to the young and modern crowd, Planet Hollywood is a one-stop shop for entertainment with its massive shopping mall, slew of restaurants, spacious casino and clubs.
The ambiance of the casino is retro-chic meets high-tech with black granite floors throughout and colorful LED lights throughout the space. The theme carries into the 100,000 square-foot casino with 250 flat screens topping off slot machines. The casino is also home to 87 tables, a sports book and a poker room.
There's also the Miracle Mile Shops, one Vegas' largest malls, with 140 stores including BCBG Max Azaria, bebe, Urban Outfitters and The Discovery Channel Store.
Following an afternoon of shopping, guests can satisfy their appetites at one of the gourmet restaurants in Planet Hollywood, like the non-traditional approach to steakhouses at Strip House or check out the exotic Far East motif at KOI restaurant and lounge. And if guests are still looking for more, they can spend the after hours at Privé, Triq or Krave nightclubs.
Perhaps one of the resorts biggest attractions came in March with the addition of "Peepshow." The naughty twist on the story of Little Bo Peep is modern-day spin on the run-of-the-mill Vegas topless review. The "Peepshow" stage has seen visiting celebs like Scary Spice Mel B, "Dancing with the Stars" Kelly Monaco and Playboy's Holly Madison.
