Today marks the final racing of the nine events that make up the 2013 Global Rallycross season, and the live ESPN2 coverage starting at 4 p.m. PT broadcasts from the course that’s been set up on the Festival Grounds (last used for 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival’s inaugural Village) opposite the Luxor.
A total of 26 drivers, 16 in the Supercars class and 10 in GRC Lites, will tackle the course, with its thrilling finale to cap an intense season of competition. Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue took to the skies — and the track — for pre-race excitement and Wednesday’s racing.
Top drivers who qualified Wednesday: current champion Toomas Heikkinen in the white car #6, Travis Pastrana #199, Ken Block #43, Tanner Foust #34 and the appropriately named Scott Speed #77.
In the Supercars class, newly crowned champion Toomas will attempt to earn his record sixth victory of the season, while fellow speed stars Tanner, Ken, Travis, Brian Deegan and Dave Mirra look to end their season on a high note.
And all eyes will be on Joni Wiman, who looks to cap off his inaugural Lites season with a perfect six wins in six races.
