Deadmau5, in Las Vegas on Friday to perform at a private event, walked to chef Devin Hashimoto’s Mizumi in Wynn to catch up; the two met at a photo shoot in 2012.

Afterward, Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, had dinner with XS Managing Partner Jesse Waits and Andrea’s, Surrender and Encore Beach Club Managing Partner Sean Christie at chef Joseph Elevado’s Andrea’s in Encore.

The EDM phenom teased that Waits should book him to play that night, and when Waits replied that he couldn’t pay him, Deadmau5 said he’d play for free. They walked to nearby XS about 11 p.m. and took the stage 30 minutes later.

Deadmau5, minus his signature ears, started with “Strobe,” and he threw on a pair of glow-in-the-dark mouse ears midway in his 90-minute opening set. Wolfgang Gartner was the headliner at 1 a.m.

It’s safe to assume that Deadmau5 is no longer a headliner at Hakkasan at MGM Grand, no? Thanks to Danny Mahoney of XS for his photo gallery.
