It’s a clash of the comics this weekend as comedians and comediennes do battle in town. Do hotel entertainment directors competitively collude to ensure that each of them has a similar themed weekend? It’s certainly strange to see so many hotels with so many comics at the same time.
Maybe they’re burned out from all the same-sounding music in our nightclubs through the summer nights so they thought a good dose of fun, humor and laughter was exactly what the city needed. But all on the same two nights?
The headliners are Jerry Seinfeld, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, Margaret Cho, Tim Allen, Gabe Kaplan and my personal-favorite pundit and hysterical social commentator Dennis Miller. Take your pick, but the laughs are guaranteed.
Music fans will find happiness with the Backstreet Boys at Mandalay Bay, which also is where the Eighth Annual Wine Amplified Weekend takes place with Collective Soul, Gavin DeGraw and bubbly and chocolate, but for smooth soul and R&B, Boyz II Men are back at the Mirage with their residency.
Our local-hero entertainer Clint Holmes performs all weekend at Cabaret Jazz in the Smith Center, singing songs requested by fans at his Twitter account @ClintHolmesLV. For yesteryear fans, 75-year-old Jack Jones sings his Grammy winners “Wives & Lovers,” “Lollipops & Roses” and “Impossible Dream.”
The impossible becomes reality now for the always sweet and affectionate Royal Robin Rundown, as each week this time we capture the highlight attractions and features of our entertainment scene:
