The Light Group

Two huge Wicked Whispers & Racy Rumors are generating buzz on the Strip today: I’ll call the first a billionaire’s buy. Which hotel group here has been in quiet negotiations with one solo Strip operator to have him acquire one of their lower-end, mass-market properties? You can expect that deal to close faster than anybody can imagine.
The second is that a top hotel corporate chief has ordered the nightclub on his key property to shut its doors, maybe as early as next week after the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival star events.
Since the arrival of mega-clubs Hakkasan at MGM Grand and Light at Mandalay Bay, this club has been hit hard by competition. The exec wants it totally made over and rebranded in time for the New Year’s Eve onslaught. No expense spared to make it better than its two bigger rivals.
NEW SHOWS? There’s still buzz in all the right circles that the musical “Rocky” that opens on Broadway in February will hit Las Vegas as the first stop after the New York run. Rumors of “Book of Mormon” becoming a permanent Strip attraction persist after its four-week engagement at Smith Center for the Performing Arts next June and July.
BRITNEY UPDATES: Pop princess Britney Spears will be back in Las Vegas this weekend as a presenter at iHeartRadio, and she’ll probably pal up with Miley Cyrus. The two appear in Miley’s new MTV special “The Movement” that airs Oct. 2 just before the release of her new album “Bangerz.”
In one scene, Miley discusses her desire to “have fun” at the MTV Video Music Awards to Britney. “Everyone takes the VMAs so seriously, and I just want to come out and, like, shoot a hot dog gun,” Miley confesses, sending Britney into a fit of hysterical laughter. “You’re always gonna make people talk,” she added. “You might as well make them talk for two weeks rather than two seconds.”
For our fashion-conscious readers who have peppered me wanting details of her outfit selection for the “Good Morning America” reveal Tuesday morning, I sleuthed out that Britney’s tailored suit with cutaway neck to waist came from Alexandre Vauthier’s Spring 2013 collection.
PROBING QUESTIONS: Which musician on the Strip every now and again forgets where he is in a particular number, but thankfully an audio engineer slides in the correct music until the artist gets back on track? I guess if it’s called lip synching, this is called guitar synching?
Was the “Wheel of Fortune” episode that aired this week with a contestant losing a $1 million prize because of mispronunciation filmed at the Venetian?
Is my food friend Bradley Martin on target with his news that the lingerie and bikini coffee shops all the rage in California will get a Vietnamese twist here in a Chinatown tea house with model servers wearing low-cut, skin-tight undies and swimwear? Cafe Teaze?
FIRST LOOK: Expect cross-dressing when men put on women’s clothing and the ladies dress up as the lads at Frank Marino’s Oct. 4 “Showbiz Roast” at the Stratosphere to benefit his favorite charity, Make-a-Wish Foundation. The poster shows Louie Anderson, Frankie Scinta, Geechy Guy, Mark Shunock and yours truly as roasters, with performances by “Jersey Boys, Melody Sweets (“Absinthe”) and Britney Spears female impersonator Derrick Barry, who will really be confused as to what to wear.
BRAD PITT’S TV: Superstar Brad Pitt has had his PBS cameras here all week filming for his environmental series, and I’ll sit for them Saturday morning at Bellagio to talk about our green city in the desert and how we’re facing ever-dwindling water supplies.
PAINTED ON AT ‘PIN UP’: A team of body-paint artists partnered with Stratosphere and “Pin Up” starlet Claire Sinclair for a private event at Stratosphere Theater on Wednesday evening. The models artwork was painted by Naked Vegas, a newly formed group of body-paint artists. Crystal McCahill (in helmet), Claire, Ryan Kelsey (no body paint for him!) and Kayla Collins took part.
CONGRATS, JOSH: It’s only a few steps for singer Josh Strickland to go from his former dressing room at “Peepshow” in Planet Hollywood to his new home at Saxe Theater in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Instead of relocating to L.A., Josh is joining “Vegas! The Show” before the end of the month as its new headline singer.
Queen frontman and lead guitarist Brian May wrapped his second day of rehearsals with Adam Lambert for iHeartRadio and watched Cirque du Soleil’s “O” at Bellagio on Wednesday night.
Actor Nicolas Cage was at Grape Street Cafe Wine Bar and Cellar for a late lunch before heading to Motley Crue at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.
Actor Anthony Mackie, who stars in the new Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck thriller “Runner, Runner,” dined with five friends at Hakkasan.
Illusionist David Copperfield returns from a vacation on his Bahamanian island to MGM Grand for another run of fantastic magic through month’s end.
Singer Pia Zadora opens her Pia’s Place cabaret lounge at Piero’s, where she’ll star for an indefinite run with legendary Frank Sinatra pianist Vincent Falcone’s quartet.
Blink-182 is at Boulevard Pool in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Tech N9NE is at Hard Rock Live on the Strip.

The two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival is so laden with pop superstars, it’s being staged at MGM Grand Garden Arena and the popup Village opposite Luxor. Expect Justin, Queen, Adam, Miley, Katy Perry, Sir Elton John, Robin Thicke, Sir Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars and Ne-Yo as performers and Britney Spears, Kate Hudson, Khloe Kardashian and sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner as presenters at the Ryan Seacrest-hosted shindig. We’ll have the full 48-hour rundown.
The new Mike Tyson documentary series with its shocking confessions and revelations starts on Fox Sports; some of our daytime beach clubs shut down with a splash as summer ends; and former “Saturday Night Live” star Dana Carvey (“I’m yelling, and I don’t know why!”) spotlight our weekly Weekend Celebrity Preview.
