Britney Spears arrives in Las Vegas
Amid ever-increasing drumbeats that Britney Spears is ready to tie the knot with boyfriend David Lucado, the pop princess returns to her residency “Britney: Piece of Me” at the Axis at Planet Hollywood on Friday with dates through Labor Day Weekend.
Britney’s 100-minute, high-energy dance show covering 15 years of chart-topping hits at Planet Hollywood’s 4,600-seat theater with the world’s largest indoor projection screen gets a break during the heat-wave months of June and July and resumes Aug. 16 through Sept. 6.
Our review of “Piece of Me” was posted Dec. 28 with a photo gallery of the show by Denise Truscello, and here is a video of Britney’s arrival in December posted on YouTube by contributing videographer Richard Corey.
That eight-week hiatus is when Britney’s fans are increasingly saying that she’ll exchange wedding vows in Hawaii. Gossipmongers have gone into overdrive since she went on vacation at Aulani Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina on the main island of Oahu. It’s described as a new kind of family vacation, which would be perfect for Britney and her two sons.
Insiders say they would be part of any wedding scenario amid the breathtaking island scenic views. They also have said her security team has carried out full surveillance and given their go-ahead that she will have all the protection and seclusion necessary to ensure that thousands of fans and hundreds of media don’t spoil the magical wedding day.
However, there also are rumblings that her father, Jamie, is still not convinced that David is 100 percent right for his daughter. In October, it will be six years that he has acted as her conservator controlling her personal life, finances and career — and the judge says it will remain in place throughout her Las Vegas run.
Ticket sales have been strong for her nightly barrage of 24 nonstop hits since her debut in December, and talks have already begun about a first year’s extension past the original 200-show, two-year contract into 2016. That was unofficially confirmed when a number of people connected with Britney’s show were given a green light to buy homes and apartments here for its extended run.
So if the rumblings and rumors come true of a romantic June wedding, we’ll give the happy couple our congratulations. But, as we say in Las Vegas, there’s no sure bet, so don’t be surprised if wedding-day bliss is pushed back.
Welcome back to Las Vegas, Britney — have a great summer run!
