Robin Leach has finished his annual summer vacation under the Tuscan sun in Italy, and many of our Strip personalities again stepped forward in his absence to pen their own words of wisdom. As Robin enjoys the final birthday week of his working vacation with his family, we continue today with our popular guest columns. Here is Greg Costello, electronic nightlife host from PartyPetition.
As a professional in the Las Vegas nightlife industry, I’m constantly asked the same questions: “Which club has the better DJ on Friday night, Y or Z?” “Is there someone I can contact to get bottle-service prices for all the clubs?” “I can’t afford to spend $5,000, but I still want a table. What should I do?” “Why can’t my group split the bill for a table to make it more affordable?”
I had been hearing it all for years and witnessing it firsthand in the clubs. The truth is I didn’t know how to answer those questions. Here I was, working in the heart of the industry, and I couldn’t even give an appropriate rundown of the Las Vegas nightlife scene for a given night.
The problem was large. The solution, as it turns out, is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
Last year, I teamed up with a group of Las Vegas-based hospitality and nightlife veterans and some Silicon Valley-based tech experts to form PartyPetition. It’s a free mobile application that functions as an electronic host to Sin City — the Priceline of Las Vegas nightlife, if you will.
Our app has two main functions. First, it’s the go-to resource to browse everything that’s happening on the Strip with a swipe of a finger. You can see where the hottest events and parties are on any night, access venue information about all the top clubs and see where your favorite DJ is spinning. It’s an insider scoop into all the dayclubs, nightclubs and after-hours spots in the city.
But why stop there? We didn’t want to just tell people where to party; we wanted to guarantee the ultimate Las Vegas experience. So, we developed the app to let users book bottle and table service at the best possible price.
Users name their budget, the number of guests in their party and their table location/alcohol preferences, then the app sends out a “petition” (hence the name) to as many as five nightclubs or dayclubs of their choice. The clubs respond with offers, and users select the offer that best suits their needs. PartyPetitioners present printed confirmation at the VIP entrance of their chosen destination and are admitted without further cover charge, tax or gratuity.
We even installed features to make the payment process affordable and fair. Have a friend that always skirts the bill? The “Split Payment” feature lets users divvy up the bill before arrival. Did a long-lost cousin visit your table and drink a whole bottle of Dom? The “Chip In” feature allows a credit card holder to be reimbursed by any guest, at any time, even weeks in the future.
The app was founded by myself, Greg Costello, director of customer development at SBE’s Hyde Bellagio; Mike Myers, former president of business development for Variety Worldwide LLC; Pablo Jablonski, former lead IOS developer of software company Blackboard; and Andrew Easton, former system designer at Microsoft in the visual studio analytics sector.
In today’s fast-paced environment, you can order dinner, do your taxes, deposit a check and learn a language on your phone, so why not book a killer party? Nearly 40 million people visit our city every year, with a vast majority of them older than 21.
At PartyPetition, we take the hassle out of “club shopping” and put the power back where it belongs — in your hands.
Be sure to check out our other guest columnist today, Ryan Growney, GM of South Point who is keeping the cowboy traditions of Las Vegas alive and well. On Sunday, we have our two final guest columns this summer with Nina DiGregorio and Mark OToole.
