Miss Nevada 17-year-old Henderson beauty Ellie Smith plans a Labor Day Weekend bon voyage party as she departs for the 2014 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
The pageant preliminaries for the 53 contestants are Sept. 9-11. Ellie will take part in the “Show Us Your Shoes” Parade on the boardwalk Sept. 13 before the ABC telecast of the annual pageant Sept. 14.
The one-hour “Countdown to the Crown” special will precede the pageant and crowning of the new Miss America, and Ellie will start filming segments for that all next week.
SKIN PARADE: Las Vegas gets another chance to see a live version of Men of the Strip, the handsome hunks show created by 98 Degrees singer and founder and Las Vegas resident Jeff Timmons. The bare-chested males were featured in the E! Entertainment special “Men of the Strip” and had a one-off at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay.
Before they depart on a Caribbean cruise, they will take it off at The D Las Vegas tonight through Sunday. On Wednesday, the guys joined fans for rides on the SlotZilla zipline and signed calendars.
FILLING CELINE’S SHOES: First it was Diana Ross, as reported here Wednesday, and now come renewed rumors for British superstar Adele and more likely Mariah Carey standing in for Celine Dion at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace during her medical absence through March 22 and caring for husband Rene Angelil in his throat cancer battle.
TMZ reported this morning that a $750,000 offer has been made to Mariah for one weekend of shows.
LIGHTS ON: David Siegel, founder and CEO of Westgate Resorts, was joined by XUL Vodka girls when he switched on the ceremonial lighting for the first time of his new Westgate Las Vegas marquee Wednesday night.
David is transforming the former LVH into his flagship timeshare and vacation resort.
GIRLFIGHT: Good luck wishes to Las Vegas flyweight boxer and MMA fighter Ana Julaton, who will take on Malaysia’s Ann Osman, a Muslim fighter, at the OneFC battle in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
You can watch the fight live on OneFC.LiveSport.TV at 7 a.m. PT because of the time difference. Ana: Win for you, Las Vegas and my birthday!
PATENT GRANTED: Actress Joan Severance, who often calls Henderson home and played my TV wife on ABC’s “Wife Swap,” has a fascinating hobby with her game txTylz. She’s just had a patent granted for it in Australia, and one for America has just published and is under review with expectations for the grant any moment.
Her interactive game, which is like texting but without a phone, is unique. Details: txtylz.com.
OVEN CENTRAL: When The Light Group’s first off-Strip restaurant Hearthstone opens at Red Rock Resort in October, two oversized hearth ovens imported from Italy will sit center stage so that chef Brian Massie’s cooking is really at the heart of the restaurant. Guests will be able to interact with the chefs as they roast cast-iron steaks, baked ricotta with truffle honey, bouillabaisse and more.
Says Brian: “It’s not about being farm to table because you should be doing that anyway. It’s not about the food being home-made because you should be doing that anyway. This is our opportunity to express our love of dining in a warm, welcoming environment rather than in a overbearing restaurant with loud decor and even louder music.”
ADULT VIDEO HONORS: For the 2015 AVN Awards on Jan. 24, there will be 120 categories up for consideration. Who knew there were that many positions? To be considered, a title must have been released between October 2013 and Sept. 30.
The riotous, raucous and sex-fueled show will be hosted by blonde bombshell Alexis Texas and stud Tommy Pistol at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.
CHELSEA’S FINALE: Las Vegas was represented at Chelsea Handler’s “Chelsea Lately” E! series finale and wrap party by Jeff Beacher and Sammy Hagar. Jeff flew to L.A. to help the comedienne celebrate along with celebrities including Miley Cyrus, Gwen Stefani, Gerard Butler, Melissa McCarthy, 50 Cent, Selena Gomez and more.
Jeff has been good friends with Chelsea ever since he provided entertainment for her birthday a few years ago. Chelsea starts her new Netflix series in fall 2015.
PITCH IN: This Saturday and every Saturday in September, you can help the great folks at Opportunity Village get ready for this holiday season’s Magical Forest. Contribute just four hours of community service to ensure that this year’s event is the biggest and best fundraiser yet.
Men of the Strip are at The D Las Vegas through Sunday.
Tove Lo is at The Sayers Club in SLS Las Vegas.
Theophilus London is at the Cosmopolitan.

The D Las Vegas is the new revved-up name for a longtime downtown Las Vegas hotel, Fitzgeralds, which had been in operation since 1987.
Owner Derek Stevens rebranded and refurbished the hotel in fall 2012 to give it a motor city theme, using the nickname of his beloved city, Detroit, for the name of the new hotel. He also brought in two restaurant favorites from Detroit: American Coney Island and Joe Vicari's Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.
The property features 638 remodeled contemporary rooms and suites. The unique two-level casino included slots and table games. Dancing dealers are featured on the first floor. And the second floor transports guests back in time to old-school Vegas with its Vintage Casino.
The casino also features the LONGBAR, the longest bar in Nevada, where sports fans can watch games on big screen TVs. Outside on Fremont Street, D Bar invites guests and passerby alike to enjoy refreshing frozen libations and specialty cocktails as talented, trickster bartenders send bottles and glasses flying through the air.
The Showroom at the D features the interactive comedy show, "Marriage Can Be Murder," where guests can be part of the mystery.
Transport yourself to the opulent and excessive Roman Empire at Caesars Palace. But the ever-changing Caesars Palace is far from ancient. The hotel and casino is constantly raising the bar for what visitors can expect in a Vegas resort experience.
Caesars Palace features 3,348 rooms and suites in five towers, including the new luxury boutique Nobu Hotel and Restaurant, which opened Feb. 4, 2013, in the totally remodeled Centurian Tower. Caesars features 129,000 square feet of gaming space, including the Strip’s largest poker room and a 250-seat sports book. Other amenities include about two dozen restaurants, a four-level shopping mall, four pools, a spa, Pure and Poetry nightclubs and Pussycat Dolls.
Dining options include restaurants from world-renown chefs Guy Savoy, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsay and, on Feb. 4, 2013, Nobu Matsuhisa.
You never know what characters you’ll run into at Caesars with regular performers like Jerry Seinfeld, Bette Midler, Elton John and maybe even the emperor himself.
