It will be a little longer than thought until the finals of Season 11 of “Top Chef” in New Orleans. Bravo is stretching out the agony of the wait with 17 episodes in all to see what happens with Las Vegas cheftestant Shirley Chung.
There are still four more episodes. Tonight and next Wednesday, the final contestants are still in New Orleans, and then the last two episodes move to Maui, even though Bravo has started teasing the Hawaiian adventures.
Chef Shirley, who has worked on the Strip with Thomas Keller, Guy Savoy and Jose Andres, is one of the five remaining chefs with the final two episodes in New Orleans with Las Vegas star chefs Emeril Lagasse and Tom Colicchio.
One of the final cheftestants is Shirley’s rival Nicholas Elmi, who refused to volunteer to leave last week. He won immunity in the Quickfire Challenge, but the judges ruled that his second dish in the Elimination Challenge was a disaster and he should resign. He declined.
It’s down to the final five tonight: Shirley, Nina Compton, Brian Huskey, Carlos Gaytan and the moody Nicholas. He winds up in a kitchen fight with Carlos, and the tension is so thick, you could cut it with a chef’s knife.
We’ll be back Thursday with a recap to see if Shirley continues onward. We still have no idea who winds up in the finale in Maui, but we do know that the judges there are stumped with a tie in the voting for the winner — and the dramatic conclusion must have one and only one winner.
