Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano are starting the New Year with a bang, as the Dutch DJ duo make their debut tonight as new members of the Class of 2014 of resident DJs at mega-club Hakkasan at MGM Grand.
After an unsuccessful effort at a conference call, the dynamic DJ duo, who performed at Ocean of White at MGM Grand Garden Arena in October, answered questions via email:
Congratulations on your residency at Hakkasan. What made you decide on such a commitment?
Well it’s such an amazing club. We’ve been coming to Las Vegas for some time now, and, having experienced this club and how the fans react, we knew this was the place for us.
Have you had residencies elsewhere?
Sure, several places around the world, but, specifically in Las Vegas, we were most recently at Marquee.
Where are you based?
We spend a lot of time in Holland and New York City when not traveling.
How did the two of you meet and start working together?
We met when Sunnery was working at a fashion store and Ryan was applying for a job. We both were into music and started to collaborate. The rest is history!
I saw you guys at Ocean of White at MGM Grand Garden Arena in October, so you’re Las Vegas regulars. What do you like to do in town when you’re not working?
We like to check out the shops, eat in the great restaurants and of course party!
What are some of your favorite venues for performing in the U.S. and world?
We really love playing at Liv in Miami. It’s an amazing club, and it’s always a massive party there.
What is one of the best things about being a DJ, as well as one of the negatives?
I think it’s the same answer for both — traveling. It’s amazing to see the world and party with people from different cultures. At the same time, it’s so tough on the body to travel so much, and of course it means time away from the family. That’s difficult.
What can fans expect when you make your residency debut at Hakkasan on Jan. 30?
Oh, man, we are so pumped! We’re gonna bring a super-sexy vibe to Hakkasan and can’t wait to dance with everyone in Las Vegas.
What are you guys looking forward to the most in performing at Hakkasan for the first time?
Just stepping up to the decks and putting on that first record. Looking around and dropping that first beat. We can’t wait for everyone to go crazy from that first moment.
Resolutions for 2014?
To play as much as we can and release a lot more music. We’re also very excited for Miami Music Week / World Music Conference and our own concept Sexy By Nature.
