Las Vegas is ground central in the entertainment world this weekend, and not solely because of the 130,000 electronic dance music fans nightly at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the bigger-and-better, three-day 2014 Electric Daisy Carnival with its 200+ DJs. Full details can be found in our story posted Thursday and Las Vegas Weekly Editor Sarah Feldberg’s interview with Insomniac and EDC chief Pasquale Rotella.
The weather should be perfect with no rain in the forecast and overnight temperatures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for the three dusk-to-dawn windows-of-wild in the comfortable low 80s. Drink plenty of water during the rave hours. Pack a pair of sunglasses because sun up is at 5:25 a.m. just as you head home in the walk of shame or stride of pride in those furry boots, stockings and garters and rainbow-cutout psychedelic short skirts.
Headline spinners behind the dueling decks include everybody from A-to-Z and in many cases will do double duty at packed Strip nightclubs this weekend. We’ve added the star names below so that you can catch them in both places.
Las Vegas is all over movie screens this weekend, too. Oscar-winning director and actor Clint Eastwood unspools his version of the hit Broadway musical “Jersey Boys” with former Strip headliner Erich Bergen in the lead role of Bob Gaudio.
Think Like a Man, Too
Kevin Hart, Meagan Goode and several crazy couples star in “Think Like a Man, Too” set on a wild Las Vegas weekend. Check out the choreography by our hometown leading lady Jennifer Romas and her dancers that’s becoming some of the most talked about scene-stealers.
And over in Chicago, our Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority execs have Las Vegas legend and resident Wayne Newton on hand with 100 Las Vegas carolers to take over three Windy City landmarks to promote the official start of our summer season. Wayne throws out the first pitch in the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field this afternoon.
For non-EDM fans, there’s an array of choices with Jeff Bridges and The Abiders at Red Rock Resort, Gin Blossoms at Henderson Pavilion, Gregg Allman at the Palms, Rita Coolidge at Suncoast and Icona Pop and Flux Pavilion at the Hard Rock Hotel. Also at the Hard Rock, my pal actor Dennis Haskins (“Saved By the Bell”) is hosting there tonight.
For a completely opposite take on the world of EDM, step into an outer galaxy with William Shatner for signature storytelling and LOL humor in two remaining nights of his one-man show “Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It” at Hollywood Theater in MGM Grand.
It’s been a while since former “The Girl Next Door” reality TV starlet and Playboy beauty Bridget Marquardt has been to town (aside from her quick stop for gal pal Holly Madison’s recent grand opening of 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque at Mandalay Bay), and she’ll add to the rainbow debuting her first two trunk shows of her kitchen wear collection under her label Celebrate With Bridget and host meet-and-greets. The first will be at Sugar Factory at the Paris today and the second at Sugar Factory in MGM Grand on Saturday, both from noon to 5 p.m.
Nightlife czar Victor Drai joins with Eduardo Cordova in opening the Strip’s first hotel gay nightlife venue Liaison at Bally’s. Also this weekend, with Saturday being the first day of summer: Comic Con at South Point and “VooDoo Zip Line Day” on Saturday at the newest thrill ride (33 mph) nearly 500 feet high between the 50-floor Rio hotel towers. It’s a one-third-mile, heart-pumping experience in just 70 seconds.
