Casting is set to start this weekend for July filming in Las Vegas on “Guard Dog,” a new family-feature film that involves former longtime Strip headliner magician Lance Burton.
The story revolves around a magical sheepdog who dramatically changes the lying, cheating, stealing and school-dropout life of a 9-year-old boy. You can find all the details of this crowdfunded project at GuardDogMovie.com.
The youngster is taught to follow “The Rules,” a spin of the Ten Commandments, which also changes the lives of many of the students at his school. As producers raise money to meet the cost of cameras, equipment and film supplies, they point out that nobody working on this film is getting paid upfront.
“We are all volunteering our time and gifts to create a film that, hopefully, will change the lives of thousands of families for the better,” said Las Vegas writer, producer and director Rory Johnston. “We hope to engage other people who wish there were more family-friendly, inspirational movies to help us see the project through to fruition.
“We are stepping out in faith here. We have committed to making the film without any financing being in place. Even with an all-volunteer cast and crew, it will take funds to get the film produced. We don’t need to bring in any Hollywood celebrities, the dog is the star of this movie, but we’ll need to rent equipment to make the film look and sound it’s best.
“We’ll need props, costumes, insurance, a web site, posters, publicity and DVDs, and all those things add up.”
Lance, who is currently in post-production on his feature-film directorial debut “Billy Topit,” has joined the production team of “Guard Dog.”
