Naming an event the Greatest Party on Earth — now the Tuesday industry night once a month at 1 OAK in the Mirage — is a lofty label, but it’s actually a play on the nickname of a circus — the Greatest Show on Earth.
And the Greatest Party on Earth lived up to its name at 1 OAK on Tuesday night.
DJ Clinton Sparks launched his monthly the Greatest Party on Earth with much fanfare — the nightspot was transformed into a circus big top with performers on stilts, sexy clowns, confetti cannons and larger-than-life stuffed and balloon animals.
Sparks served as GPOE’s ringmaster, DJ and MC, made his entrance after midnight clad in a red-and-gold tasseled coat and led a booming LED-lit drum line into the nightclub to Ace Hood’s “Bugatti.” The drum line then performed to DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win” while Sparks hyped up partygoers — something he does very well.
After the pre-show, Sparks hopped into the DJ booth and played his signature mix of classic and new hip-hop dance tracks from the Best Coast, East Coast and the South. He also dropped his own work, including “Gold Rush” featuring Grammy Award-winning Macklemore, 2 Chainz and D.A.
The at-capacity crowd — and it certainly felt like it — danced into the early hours of the morning and definitely got into the spirit of the circus theme dressed as sexy, cleavage-baring clowns, ringmasters and more. The only things missing were The Gazillionaire, Penny Pibbets and Melody Sweets from “Absinthe.”
My guest said GPOE reminded her of Beacher’s Madhouse at MGM Grand, and I thought of Ghostbar Dayclub at the Palms. Both are circus-freak-fun good times, so let the good times roll at 1 OAK.
After his explosive set, Sparks returned to the City of Angels. His second Greatest Party on Earth is Tuesday, April 8. All eyes on Sparks at the center of a ring just like a … well, you know.
