AEG and MGM Resorts Arena Groundbreaking

Confetti flies as AEG and MGM Resorts International representatives and celebrities break ground on a new world-class indoor arena in Las Vegas onThursday, May 1, 2014. The 20,000-seat sports and entertainment venue will be located near the heart of the famed Las Vegas Strip and adjacent to the I-15 corridor. Launch slideshow »

Over the next 30 days, the Strip will get a whole lot sweeter as the giant, two-floor Hershey’s Chocolate World gets ready to open. First comes the delicate fly-in of the eye-catching 70-foot facade of the chocolate bar and an 18-foot Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, plus three entrances in the shape of Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses at the flagship store.

Once installed, there will be a soft-preview opening and then a grand opening now tentatively set for the first week of June. MGM Resorts Chairman and CEO Jim Murren told me that he believes Hershey’s Chocolate World will be an overnight major tourist attraction and the dazzling focal point of the Strip-front makeover of his New York-New York skyline.

It also will mark the finishing touch to that casino’s makeover.

“It is a one-of-a-kind experience only to be found in Las Vegas,” Jim told me. “And part of our new outdoor attractions on the Strip anchoring a new array of shops and dining experiences.”

Once inside, guests will find new taste treats and other experiences, promised Amy Hahn, VP and GM of the Hershey Experience. “Candy lovers will find this the most exciting street in the world,” she said. “Everything is bigger and brighter on the Las Vegas Strip, and we are thrilled to be taking the Hershey’s Chocolate World experience to the next level.

“It’s an engaging and interactive space where they can taste new treats, personalize sweet gifts and create keepsake photos.”

That includes technology that allows chocoholics to create their own candy bars, customize candy wrappers and personalize Hershey’s Kisses.

“The choice of this location for an entirely new imagined concept was no accident,” added Dino DiCienzo, president of Chocolate Experiences Inc., which is partnered with the 100-year-old, $6.6 billion Hershey Corp. with 14,000 worldwide employees. “Our new flagship store is the perfect meeting of renowned American icons: Hershey’s, the Strip and the re-creation of the New York City skyline at New York-New York.”

The store is located between the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge re-creations. Check back to Vegas DeLuxe for coverage of the towering fly-ins and the opening dates.
