Amy Purdy. Our winner. Our hero.

In the end, it was oh-so-close for Amy.

Our heroic Las Vegas amputee was tonight’s Season 18 “Dancing With the Stars” runner-up with pro partner Derek Hough right behind Olympic champion ice dancer Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Both scored 30 points in their final dance while actress Candace Cameron Bure and an injured Mark Ballas were eliminated with 27 points from the judges.

The result was as I had predicted earlier today. This is Maks’ first win, while Derek was denied a sixth championship. We will have a full report and a photo gallery of the finale Wednesday morning.

Amy deserves all the praise reserved for a winner. She pulled off a miracle in going for the gold and overcoming all odds to get so far.

She showed courage, passion and determination and will be looked up to for years to come as a young lady who inspired a nation and overcame every challenge imaginable that would have felled others.

Amy Purdy. Our winner. Our hero.
