In a sense, it’s the mother of all celebration collisions: Super Bowl 50, aka The Big Game, and Chinese New Year, where we wish everybody a very Prosperous and Happy Year of the Monkey. Kung Hei Fat Choy — and good luck to the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos in their football face-off.
If next weekend’s Valentine’s Day love-in and myriad of marriages, along with the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, moved up a week, we would really have a gargantuan party.
But we have plenty to keep us hopping for the next 72 hours, as you would expect in the Entertainment Capital of the World. It’s a culinary weekend, as award-winning chef Jose Andres is joined by Australian hunk star chef Curtis Stone for Dine-N-Dash at SLS Las Vegas.
The dynamic duo guide seven SLS restaurants, just like a pub crawl, then it’s two theatrical presentations as Jose and Curtis tackle a food demo, plus “cocktail theater” by mixologist Rob Floyd. It benefits Jose’s World Kitchen charity and our Three Square food bank.
It’s not too late to join the culinary extravaganza tonight from 5:30 to 11:30. The VIP Dine-N-Dash experience gives guests access to happy hour with Jose and Curtis in Bazaar Casino, admission to a concert by Awolnation in the new Foundry and after-party with Jose in Bazaar Meat.
If you are a diehard Michael Jackson fan, you might want to stay home to watch tonight’s Showtime premiere of Spike Lee’s documentary “Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall,” an insightful chronicle from his start as a member of The Jackson 5 through the release of “Off the Wall.” The doc also is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
Super Bowl 50 has its Halftime Show with Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Beyonce in her fourth Super Bowl show (will hubby Jay Z, who was on Coldplay’s “Lost,” make a surprise duet with his wife?), but we have plenty of music and comedy to stay on top:
AC/DC rocks out at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Blood, Sweat and Tears with Bo Bice is at Golden Nugget, Awolnation is at SLS, Bullet For My Valentine is at Hard Rock Hotel, and it’s a delight to see Jimmy Hopper back on the Strip with his exuberant piano vocals.
Resident stars Mariah Carey, Carlos Santana and Clint Holmes are on duty, plus the comedy of Sinbad, Jon Lovitz, “The Reverend” Bob Levy and Daniel Tosh.
Ne-Yo leads the party patrol at Chateau, and UFC Octagon girls Arianny Celeste, Brittney Palmer, Chrissy Blair, Vanessa Hanson with Kendra Perez party at Hyde Bellagio after UFC Fight Night 82 with Stephen Thompson, Johny Hendricks, Roy Nelson and Jared Rosholt.
And it’s a unique First Friday with maternity belly bodypainting on pregnant model KareeAnne Salgado at Skin City’s two-woman art exhibit by Cristina Paulos and Audrey Fox.
Let’s deliver our knockout punch with this week’s Royal Robin Rundown and pay special attention to the huge list of ticket sales for shows and events that keep Las Vegas on top:
