Superstar singer Mariah Carey and her massive 35-carat-diamond engagement ring say au revoir to the Las Vegas Strip for a while as she wraps her Caesars Palace residency and throws a huge wrap party at 1OAK in the Mirage. Fret not, lambs: Mariah and the beyond-belief bauble return to “Mariah #1 to Infinity” on June 7.
As Mariah winds down, Rascal Flatts revs it up at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, and I can let you in on a secret: Without naming names, tonight and Saturday night a big-name guest star will be joining their “Rhythm & Roots” mini-residency party. We’ll have a report of that starry jam session; also check out our Q+A with guitarist Joe Don Rooney posted Wednesday.
It also is the first weekend of The Scintas’ new mini-run at the downtown Plaza. My interview with lead singer Frankie Scinta was posted Thursday. And although the Jabbawockeez, the Season 1 winners of “America’s Best Dance Crew,” have been thrilling fans with their dance moves at their new MGM Grand home since late last year, tonight is the official grand opening of their new residency show “Jreamz.”
My friends The Tenors, once known as The Canadian Tenors, are at the Smith Center, and if you’ve never heard this quartet of top vocalists, this is a golden opportunity. The nicest of guys, they also are powerful singers who put on a riveting performance. Our Q+A with newlywed Clifton Murray of The Tenors goes live at 2 a.m. Saturday.
It’s a gloriously mixed-bag weekend for the Las Vegas entertainment scene: Sports is well represented with a USA Sevens Rugby youth match, and Global Legends Series soccer is at Sam Boyd Stadium.
My chef pal Grant McPherson hosts the 27th annual “Splendor in the Glass” wine-and-beer tasting to benefit Vegas PBS at Westgate Las Vegas; the 31st annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards are at Orleans Arena; and the ninth-annual World Sign Spinning Championships with more than 100 contestants is at Fremont Street Experience.
Could that be topped with anything more unique? How about adult superstar Jessica Drake’s premiere at Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club on Saturday night? Sexy Jessica has created special costumes and dance routines for her X-rated, close-encounters debut .
So knowing that there’s something for everybody from A-to-XXX, let’s strip down to the bare minimum in this week’s edition of the Royal Robin Rundown:
